Recommendations for a good family cookbook please

I have been looking in bookshops but all the "family" cookbooks I've seen so far have been full of poncy recipes using things like scallops, sea bass etc etc. I'm looking for a bog standard book with quick and easy recipes using mince, chicken, tuna, pasta etc - food that my toddler might actually eat!

Jamies Ministry of Food - it's great for family friendly straightforward recipes.

Ministry of Food - it's surprising good. Covers everything,

TheArmadillo · 09/02/2009 13:44

I have been doing all the cooking after DH left - he used to rule the kitchen. I use JO Ministry of Food and Delia's complete cookery course. Have fussy teenagers and they have eaten most of my offerings. Love the JO book as it is partly pictorial but not patronising.
Having seen cooking as a chore for 20 years, I am now really enjoying it.

Snap!

TheApprentice · 09/02/2009 13:47

Ooh, the Ministry of Food is on special offer at Amazon right now!

You will not be disappointed. My DCs want Jamie to be my 'new man', or the chap from behind the counter in Game so he can get them discounts!!

Zaftig · 09/02/2009 17:29

I bought Ministry of Food a few days ago - done two recipes and they turned out perfect!

I love this book. Actual recipes I can use and that are EASY. With step by step pics for the rubbish cook - me!

Another vote for the MoF book. The recipes I've tried have all been successful.

Annabell Karmel's books-dd now actually eats! And her friend came for tea and actually commented on how nice the food was (she was 4 bless her!). Am mega impressed!

Another vote for Ministry of Food. Some really nice & simple ones in there!

The Dinner Lady by Jeanette Orrey is good too.

I have the Tana Ramsey one (Gordon's wife). My offerings have been well received so far.

TheApprentice · 11/02/2009 13:50

Being the offspring of a "basics" cook who doesn't agree with celebrity chefs, I have been given a set of BBC GoodFood "101..." books. The one I tend to use most often is the 101 Cheap Eats Both DH and DD are fussy eaters and have managed to find a lot of good easy recipes in there for them

bogie · 11/02/2009 21:29

Dp bought me this and its fab it has weekly planners and shopping lists too. www.amazon.co.uk/Family-Healthy-Balanced-Kitchen-Saucepans/dp/1905862156

I had a flick through Ministry of Food in Asda this morning (£12) and it looks great. Lots of recipes you'd cook over and over again I think.
