I am trying to choose a Kenwood mixer...

Having come to the heartbreaking decision that actually a KitchenAid is a waste of space and that the Kenwood is the way forward (why does it have to be so ugly?!), I am now choosing between Kenwoods.

So, we regularly make bread, lots of cakes/muffins etc, blend soup.

We probably bake at least every other day, and make a couple of batches of soup a week.

I'm leaning towards the Chef Premier (1000 watt motor, 4.6l bowl, can have blender attachment), but wondering whether there's any particular reason I should go for the Major (it can have the food processor attachment, has a 1600 watt motor and a whopping 6.7l bowl), or even for the smaller basic Chef, which only has an 800 watt motor, but is otherwise the same as the chef premier.

So, anyone got any of these? Any opinions? I'm by no means a professional chef, but we do cook everything from scratch and I occasionally make wedding cakes for friends (only once or twice a year though).

No idea, but I am still thinking of buying one so will lurk here, if you don't mind.

Actually, after reading that you bake every other day, can I come and stay with you?

I've got the Major. The bigger bowl is really useful. It makes my mothers ordinary Kenwood from the 70s look like a toy. How much bread do you do at once? If you use a kg of flour then I would go for the major.

I have this one

kenwood chef

which is somewhere in between the premier and major as far as I can see from what you've said above. It has a 1400w motor and the 4.6ltr bowl. I use it a lot, for baking, pastry and as a food processor. It has a section at the front that you can get all sorts of add ons for - I've got my eye on the mincing attachment so that I can do my own mincemeat, pate etc.

I think mine is very beautiful - all shiny like

I have the same one as Alibaba
It is fab-u-lous
It has a good motor and makes bread easily

(PMSL @ the 99p discount!)

Also loving the 99p discount!

I probably do normally use 1kg of flour at a time for bread, but I'm thinking that perhaps making bread in 2 batches is worth it for the sake of saving over £100! Although I am thinking of buying something that's going to last forever so perhaps investing the extra is worth it...

I like the white ones, but the Major only comes in titanium, damn it! How on earth is it going to fit in my bunting cupcake-ey retro kitchen? Curse the KitchenAid for having crap accessories.

MmeLindt I never said I was good at baking... DP has been known to enquire exactly what it is I've made. The one thing I can do is turn out repeatedly perfect fruit cake (hence the occasional wedding cake making), and the one cake I don't particularly like is fruit cake!

So, the $64,000 question. Why is the silver Kenwood Chef Premier £53 cheaper than the white one? I can see no difference at all on Amazon!

Can anyone shed any light before I go ahead and order?

I have a major and love it. Apparently making bread really hammers the motor over time so the bigger one is probably better suited to this. Also the bowl is so big you can leave the dough to rise in it and it doesn't go over the top, then knock it back without making a mess elsewhere. Mine also has a small food processor attachment which is useful for pastry etc.
