Does this sound like an OK lunch?

Somebody please validate me!!!!!

I gave my 2yo son tricolor pasta and mackarel in tomato sauce, and a banana for dessert. The mackarel was tinned with the sauce, and I just emptied the lot into the drained pasta and served.

Now, this all seems too easy and lazy to be good for us in any way, but it's oily fish, right?

A V good lunch, honest! Maybe a slice of wholemeal toast too?

Gwenick · 08/04/2005 14:08

lol colditz - my DS's has toast with flora and a slice of sandwich ham - and that's what they have most days (actually most days we don't get as far as the ham )

UM

What do you normally serve?!!?!

LGJ · 08/04/2005 14:08

Carbs

Protein

Vegtables

and fruit.

My lot today had cheese sandwiches followed by some low salt crisps. Ds1 and dd had some grapes but ds2 and ds3 escaped that.

You sound like you are doing well.

colditzmum · 08/04/2005 14:11

Normally serve sandwiches, things on toast, scrambled eggs, chopped up cheese and raisins.... that's about it really. Our main meal is in the evening, that's how I justify lunchtime laziness.

Well I'd be holding a party if my dd ate mackerel!

LGJ · 08/04/2005 14:17

MP

Mine eats anchovies, straight out of the deli tub, but put meat and two veg in front of him and let the battle commence.

Only just started this nonsense, but bloody tiring and boring.

Have started throwing it out after 30 - 45 mins.

Nothing between meals and then he always eats the next one.

colditzmum · 08/04/2005 14:18

My son has strange tastes, he will not eat chips (and I do serve them), he doesn't like baked bean, tinned spaghetti, anything green, most fruit, white bread or potatoes.

I keep serving them, they keep ending up in the bin, and I know he will eat pasta, tomato sauce (but won't touch ketchup!!!) and mackerel!

I on the other hand would happily live on supernoodles and white bread and butter.

we had instant lunch today as had been out all morning

ds1 had pitta, taramasalata, grapes and apple
ds2 has pitta, salami, grapes and apple

It sounds pretty good and balanced to me. The mackerel is extremely good, wish my dss would eat it.

colditzmum · 08/04/2005 14:23

Is tinned mackerel ok then? I only buy it because I like it, I was a bit worried about how salty it seems to taste, but didn't check the tin.

Oh, didn't think of that. Not sure if it's OK for kids then. I was such a doofus I used to give my ds smoked salmon when he was about a year old, not good because of the salt content.
