Haunted by a bloody Christmas pudding! C'mon, what can I do with it?

SIL insisted on bringing a Christmas pud to our feast, which of course wasn't used because no one likes it, and everyone ate my scrummy trifle and chocolate roulade instead.

The thing is still hanging around the kitchen. It's a 'home made' one that she bought at some market or church fair thing, and didn't have a use by date.

Soooo. If I give it the occasional splash of brandy, what's the chances of it lasting until next Christmas? (When I will definitely serve it up to her, while the rest of us eat trifle!). Shall I give up and bin it? Or is there a fabulous mumsnet use for Christmas pud?

Did think of mixing it with vanilla ice cream to make a bombe thing, but can I be arsed...?

Just eat it!
I had xmas pud last night (I bought several in the reduced section just after xmas!)
I love em

You could roll it in the snow and use it as a head for a snowman.

It would give the birds a nice treat when it de-frosted too .

MrsBadger · 05/02/2009 11:34

slice and fry in butter

and you don;t have to make a bombe, just mix it with vanlla icecream and re-freeze in the original tub

2pt4kids - I HATE Christmas pud in its unadulterated state, and there's only me and DP - DS is only 7 months, so don't think he'd be too keen!

Like the snowman idea, but all of our snow has melted! Boooo.

Hmmm, MrsB, that's a possibility.

Does anyone think it might actually last another 11 months til Christmas....???

I have eaten Christmas pudding ice ceam before, made by a friend... it was delicious!

Cies · 05/02/2009 11:48

Another vote for the ice-cream. I'd also just mix it with some vanilla and then put it back in the tub.

wontbepreggersagain · 05/02/2009 11:50

send it to me

i'm a bugger for them- dh went and bought all remaining stock from morrisons after xmas!!

sagacious · 05/02/2009 11:53

feed it to the birds

(they ate all the hideous mince pies MIL baked)

phdlife · 05/02/2009 11:57

damn, I was hoping someone had seen that thing Jamie did with it, fried and turned into a sundae-type-thingy

Will probably last till next year. We freeze them, so it would definitely last if you did that!

Or you could make those nigella christmas pud bonbons? Xmas pudding, syrup, melted chocolate, sherry (I think), mix it up, roll into balls. quite nice, a bit like fridge cake.

catinthehat1 · 05/02/2009 17:54

Dip slices in egg, then ground almonds, then deep fry it. You could try melting a Mars bar over the top and serving with chilled clotted cream, but the purists would insist on having it with Stilton and a tumbler of warm Baileys.

Put it in the fridge and keep it till next christams - or the one after, or the one after that. It will be fine. We continued to eat my mums christmas pudding for years after. Was sad about 7 years later when they had all gone.

I have now found her recipe and made them myself this year, I have one left over and it is in the cold garage and we will eat it this coming Christams

I had christams cake mix with alcohol in the fridge in a container for 4 years,(not the egg, flour, butter bits) it was fine and one of the best cakes ever when I eventually made it one year.

luvaduck · 05/02/2009 18:21

sorry here - you can xmas oud or cake

whinegums · 05/02/2009 20:52

Thanks for all of this. I can't believe some of you eat Christmas pud more than once a year - masochists!

Right, I'm going to see if I can make it last til next Christmas, and if it's not eaten, will do the ice cream thing or the chocolate covered mini puddings then!
