I have just bought a large piece of pre-packed pork from a supermarket meat counter. I thought I was buying pork belly, but the printed sales ticket says its pork loin.

It is quite fatty/streaky and a sork of rectangle/square shape. Surely thats not pork loin?

I have googled, trying to find a picuture of different joints but with no luck.

Does anybody have any tips on identifying parts of pig?

It certainly sounds like pork belly to me! I'm no butchery expert, but I thought pork loin was a lean cut?

Sounds like pork belly to me. Have you been overcharged? Loin is much more expensive.

Me too.

I think pork loin is sort of round/long/rolled sort of shape. And lean.

What you've got sounds to be like pork belly.

Thanks, so did I molesworth.

I think I will treat it as such (a la Jamie Oliver) and see what happens.

Ohh, more confirmation. Thanks all. I think I may have been overcharged actually. It was £11.00, although it could feed us for the rest of the week.
I've never tried to buy pork belly before, as you may have guessed.
