Tbh I wouldn't ice it at all but if I really had to I'd probably just do a thin drizzly zig zaggy glace icing: I don't think buttercream would "go" tbh.

scienceteacher · 03/02/2009 16:57

I wouldn't ice it. Maybe a dusting of icing sugar at most.

agree about not icing it

VintageGardenia · 03/02/2009 17:01

Agree re not icing but there is a yum crunchy topping for appley cakes, a streusel topping, Google not working for me in Safari at mo but you might look.

My DD made apple and cinnamon cake in cookery club and it had glace icing on. Was very nice! Agree with the others that buttercream wouldnt suit it somehow.

Thrifty · 03/02/2009 17:05

ok, so mostly dont ice it?

icing sugar i can do :-)

I know what you mean VG but usually it involves putting it on before baking and this is out of the oven already, just looks a bit thin (didnt rise as I'd hoped) and lacklustre.

VintageGardenia · 03/02/2009 17:06

Whoops sorry! I see.

Thrifty · 03/02/2009 17:07

Mmm I'm coming to tea then!

GrimmaTheNome · 03/02/2009 17:27

Yes, just icing sugar and water - maybe a bit of lemon juice.

Thrifty · 03/02/2009 17:38

hmmm, just had a taste of an edge bit and its not very cinnamonny, would a zigzag drizzle of cinnamon icing work do you think? i.e. cinnamon, icing sugar and water?

How about dusting cinnamon and icing sugar over? Or do you think you need the moistness of icing IYSWIM? Sounds yummy

Thrifty · 03/02/2009 17:45

its quite moist (contains a lot of apple, truth be told, too much apple, which is probably why its sunk). yes maybe just a dusting [opts for the least hassle emoticon]

its quite yummy too... have now eaten all the edges (hope dp comes home soon so we can have dinner, before i eat the rest of it!)

No icing--Serve it with vanilla ice cream on top. Or a whipped cream. OR both!

Guadalupe · 03/02/2009 18:20

I would sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on the top
