I got the recipe from the back of my oats, it had:
125g brown sugar
125g butter
5 tbs golden suryp
1tsp ground ginger
225g oats (I did 125g oats by mistake)

I then also added 2 mashed bananas

can someone plese confirm if tbs means table spoons?

and also give me and easy recipe please?

I am not very good at this please help... xx

tbs does mean tablespoons
how long did you cook them?

My mums' ancestral recipe is
150g butter
75g sugar
3tbsp golden syrup
300g porridge oats
Melt fat, sugar & syrup, stir in oats.
Greased 7x7" tin, 20min gas 4

I wouldn;t mess abotu adding banana etc until you've got the basic one straight - choc cips, raisins etc are ok but banan will dramatically change the consistency

what happened to them?

i use delia's

4oz brown sugar
6oz butter
1 desert spoon golden syrup
6oz oats

i never cook them for very long or they go hard

I added 125g oats instead of 225g, so it was very sweet and gooey, way too sweet they all went in the bin. I baked them from 20mins...

Lokking at both recipes above, I added way too much golden syrup so that is why it was too sweet, I think too much sugar to.

I will have another go, thanks alot for the recipes...

Miaou posted this recipe years ago. I use it often.

Old money measurements!

6oz butter
8tbs syrup
2oz sugar
12oz oats

I usually add sultanas and in my fan assisted oven, 15-20 mins at 170 is about right.

Looking at MrsB's recipe though mine has tons of syrup!

great news, I made them and they are lovely. Thanks alot for the recipes.

Now I need some advice on storing them. How long can you keep them in the cupboard? or should they be in the fridge? Also have heard you can freeze them, is this correct?

Next time I make them I want to try apple, can you put bits of fresh apple in?

What else would be nice in them? we do not like rasins.

Storing them ! in a handbag! tone of voice. They are for eating, as fast as possible.

Which recipe did you use in the end? I can never make good flapjacks; I eat them at other people's houses, come home clutching their recipe, slave and sweat, then scrape the resulting mess into the bin. (or eat it with a spoon, depending how desperate I am for a sugar fix)

newlysinglemummy · 03/02/2009 23:00

I used mrs badgers as it was the first there and not too sweet but I used 120g sugar instead, I love sweet things but the gooey mess I made last night made me be careful of how much golden syurp and sugar I use.

TBH I ould eat the whole lot, but I actually made them for dd to tryas we are trying to be healthy. But its not working too well. I feel like a real mum baking flapjacks, I never even ate them untill I had dd. But tomorrow I will probably feel rubbish and put off baking when dd has one tiny bite then spits them out...

I never add syrup but I have used fresh and dried fruit as well as nuts and seeds (not all in the same mix ( although...maybe interesting).
So quick and easy to make and eat it's not going to get stored!
