How come my porridge seems to cook so quickly?

Have been making porridge on the hob - boil then simmer as it says on the packet. But It always gets thick much qcuiker than the packet says - usually it looks done in about 2 mins rather than 5. What am I doing wrong? I always put a little bit extra liquid in to make it cook a bit longer but is still goes thick too quickly

dunno but i shouldn't worry about it

This is a very serious issue, perhaps you should call the helpline number on the packet?

rolandbrowning · 02/02/2009 14:38

Mine does this, so I started putting more liquid in than it says on the packet, as I think it tastes better when the oats are cooked for longer. Just chuck a bit more milk or water in when you see the need.

It is serious, but if you follow my instructions there should be no need to call the helpline.

You are putting the heat on too high, so liquid is evaporating faster than the oats can absorb it. Turn the heat down

I cook mine very slowly. In fact I put the oats to soak the night before - makes better porridge.
