Anyone else gone free-range chicken only? How's it going?

After watching the Hugh F-W programme last year I decided only to eat free-range chicken. Since then I have eaten non FR stuff twice - once as part of a Chinese banquet meal early on (now I would ask them to swap it for something) and once at someone's house, because I don't like to be rude when someone's cooked for me. I would still eat it if someone made it for me, but I find it really hard sometimes when eating out - it seems like 90% of sandwiches are chicken-based sometimes, and all the yummy stuff on menus is always chicken. I end up having pasta or seafood again...

Anyone else finding their eating-out choices feel really restricted? As I don't really like beef or pork much I suppose it's like being vegetarian! And are there any unexpected sources of FR chicken meals out? I know Wetherspoon's, of all places, uses FR chicken in its childrens' chicken korma (so why not in the other meals, hmm?)

We only eat FR chicken at home and as we eat quite a bit of chicken I rarely, if ever, eat chicken when out for dinner (which is rare enough in itself). I often have fish when out. Or steak.

I only buy free-range meat at home. I became vegetarian about 10 years ago, then softened my stance. I don't question the source if I'm eating at someone else's house, but in a restaurant or sandwich shop, I usually eat fish or vegetarian. Although I have gone a bit slack on that recently, because sometimes I just really want meat. So no suggestions, just sympathy!

We have been only eating FR for ages....and when we go out we always ask if chicken on menus is FR or not and if its not then we tell the establishment that we won't be ordering it because its not FR. Not in a snooty way but in a "oh ok we'll have the steak/fish/whatever instead then"
We work on the principle that if we draw it to their attention that we are not ordering chicken if not free range they are at least going to realise there is a call for it.

Well thats the theory!

I only eat FR at home and never eat chicken when out, in an Indian restaurant I usually have lamb or veggie.

Alibean - I have wondered about that, sort of thinking "well, they don't know why I'm not ordering it...". But we live in a small seaside town and I think people might think it was reeeeeally poncey of us to ask about the chicken!

Are there any chains that do free-range chicken? I know none of the independent places here do.

I have only knowingly eaten FR for about a decade now. I ask in restaurants where the chicken comes from. As I'll only eat British meat because of the animal standards being highter over here, sometimes it can limit me to fish.
