Hi,

Wasn't sure where to post this so giving it a go here. My DD is 17 months and has been unwell for a couple of days, she has had fever and a cold but seems to have really suffered with it. Anyway, she gave up eating anying 'normal' on Friday and consequently is very lethargic (SP?). She has had a diet of milk, yogurts, fruit puree, and more milk all week. Does anyone have any suggestions about getting some more energy into her? I was thinking about the rusk in a bottle which HVs are all against but thought it might be worth a try now that she is bigger. Any help welcomed..

when my dd is ill I make risotto for her (v easy baby one)

1/2 stock cube
some rice (any kind ok)
butter
celery cut v fine

saute the rice + celery in butter on medium heat for a couple minutes, then add stock gradually ladle by ladle till absorbed. Stir. Repeat till rice nice + soft, maybe 15-20 min depending on the kind of rice.

V easy to digest, good for a dicky tummy, but tasty and carb-y for energy.

whatever she fancies - still wouldn't do rusk in a bottle but perhaps sloppy readyborek and a spoon?

dd (18m) had a similar feverish cold recently and only wanted sweet things, but things like buttered raisin bread, wholegrainy toast with honey etc got some fat and slow-burn carbs into her

sorry, i have a sick 17/18 month old here too, she's been eating simple 'fast foods' as doesn't want to sit by herself while i cook or do anything.
a fast tiny pasta shells in cheese sauce with peas, sweetcorn and finely chpped spinach, rice pudding made like risotto (rice cooked in sugar and butter and left to simmer low for 30 mins)
and little finger sandwiches and sliced fruits/ grapes etc
all eaten at leisure in front of tv or reading books!
