Tuna pasta?
Salad with cold meat?
Chicken drumsticks with maybe some cous cous in separate tubs.

is it for you or dc?

Is it a wheat problem or boredom with bread?

Risotto of some kind - I once took mushroom risotto on the flight to Australia because I wanted to be sure I would be able to eat something (have wheat ishoos). It's still pretty nice cold.

Rice salads, another option.

Crackers and stuff to put on them.

frittata
vietnamese rice paper rolls
potato salad
roast veg salad

DS2 has taken rice cakes spread with marmite to school for lunch every day this week - he doesn't like bread and won't eat sandwiches. He often has plain boiled pasta (he could have something on it but chooses not to).

I take whatever left overs there are instead of sandwiches - e.g. tuna/pasta/mayo works as a hot dinner and a cold lunch, as do lots of other pasta dishes. Cous cous and roasted veg another good one.

Cook couscous, using flavored stock. Add in finely chopped tomatoes, peppers onions meat or fish whatever you want. Always delicious.

spanish omlettes - add any sort of extra veg or cheese.

"Vegetable samosas (I make a wholewheat dough and cook them in a greased pan so they're more like an aloo paratha. They freeze well)"

Oooh, share the recipe? Sounds yummy!

Bumperslucious · 01/02/2009 11:00

Oooh, can you add more recipes suitable for a toddler? I can't imagine how many times I've not got out of the house because it hasn't been worth going out before lunch so I could do with ideas for dd (19mo).

OneLieIn · 01/02/2009 11:11

DD takes soup in a flask to school and she loves it.

OneLieIn · 01/02/2009 11:12

OH and its a cup a soup which takes me about 30 seconds to make in the morning

MakkaPakkaStacker · 01/02/2009 11:13

Thanks for the recipe MadamDS - both of my dds would absolutely love those.

mysterymoniker · 01/02/2009 16:08

oat cakes and overripe bananas are my favourite portable lunch at the moment, just squish bits of banana onto the oatcake when you are ready to eat it

it is v handy that the oatcakes come in mini packets of 6 or so, just right for one banana

cmotdibbler · 01/02/2009 16:10

Lettuce wraps (wrap lettuce leaf with ribs removed round sandwich filling such as tuna may, egg, cheese mixed with soft cheese, peanut or cashew nut butter), ham or roast beef roll ups (roll deli meat round a stick of cheese or spread with soft cheese plus some pickle or whatever), cold sausages, mini quiche (I make them in fairy cake tins and freeze), savoury muffins, frittata.

If its a wheat/gluten problem, then the gf pitta breads you can buy in most supermarkets make great sandwiches (bung in toaster for a minute before splitting and allow to cool slightly before filling and put in sealed plastic bag so they don't dry out), and you can buy a Brazilain chebe bread mix online which makes fab little cheesy rolls

TrillianAstra · 01/02/2009 17:23

Thanks for the recipe! I think I actually have all of those things so could be making some very soon.
