sorry not sure if I can help .. I have only had my slow cooker for a week or two. I did make a lovely beef casserole with red wine .. which was basically just beef, onion, mushroom, carrots, tomatoes, (a cheating jar of dolmio) and red wine. It was delicious!

I did one the other day and dh said it was the best meal he ever had!

You need a heavy based casserole dish with lid.
One onion
stewing steak or other kind of cheap cut
1 large glass red wine
200 ml stock (beef)
celery
carrots
garlic
3 bay leaves.

Leave steak in one piece (or pieces) and brown all over in casserole dish.
Transfer to plate.
Add onions, carrots, celery. Fry until soft.
Now add the bay leaves, stock, wine, garlic aand meat. Turn it down as low as it will go and put on lid. Cook for 3 hours.

Take meat out and boil a third of the juices away. Add meat just to warm up and serve with creamy mash.

Meat literally melts in your mouth.
