How could I not get jelly right?

I've made jelly tons of times, and normaly just put it into little glass bowls to set. Well my daughter saw someone making jelly on the TV with a mould (she's three) and kept pestering us to get a jelly mould, so we bought one, it's in the shape of a pig, and holds a pint of fluid. We made the mix up,poured it in and left in fridge to set. When we emptied it onto a plate it just slopped everywhere, and you couldn't even tell the thing was supposed to be a pig. Why? How are you supposed to get it out of the mould still intact?

I can't make jelly. I follow instuctions on the packet but even after leaving it in the fridge overnight you'd have to drink it through a straw. I have absolutley no idea why some people can't make jelly, it sounds so simple

Did you put anything else into it - pineapple and kiwi fruit both contain something which stops jelly from setting, so if you ever want to make a fruit jelly eg for a trifle you have to avoid them...

I've never tried using a mould, but I have an idea you're supposed to quickly dip it in hot water then quickly turn it over with a plate on top?

I'm gonna blame the mould I think lol DD was crying though, that it didn't look like a pig. I think I might try the mould one more time, without DD seeing it lol

when i've done moulds i've added slightly less water, to keep it firm, but i've yet to find a foolproof method for getting it out of the mould intact without losing ears, tails etc. especially silicone moulds, they're the worst ime.

we always had a rabbit-shaped mould when we were all at home. Made with half-boiling water, half-cold water and stirred ice-cubes through it. Never seemed to be a problem, except one time we left an ear behind

It seem to take a lot longer to set than in small glass bowls (well it would, wouldn't it!).

Wait until the jelly is could before you pour it into the mold. Rinse the mold with cold water immediately before you pour the jelly in. No idea why this works, but it usually does!

And dip the mold into hot (not boiling) water before turning it out. Sometimes boiling water melts the jelly, especially if the mold is metal.

"jelly is could"? "cold", obviously.
