OK, so I decided on macaroni cheese tonight. Was buzzing around the kitchen feeling like a domestic goddess, everything was efficient, I was unloading the dishwasher as I stirred the sauce, everything is on schedule and kitchen is spotless (all this is v rare for me btw - I am usually a messy, disorganised whirlwind when cooking).

Anyway, macaroni cheese is in the oven and I've realised that I've made the sauce with sodding SELF RAISING flour instead of plain flour.

Will it be OK to eat?

yup you won't even notice the difference.

It'll be fine - worst case scenario it might have a slight bitter after-taste. Best case scenario it'll be light and fluffy and a whole new recipe that you spend the next 5 years trying to recreate!!

Let us know how it comes out!

will it end up being quite tall?!

OOh I did this a couple of weeks ago (and also came panicing onto MN )

Coulsn't taste any difference.

Glad it's not just me

Anyway, progress report - it tasted fine. I thought I detected a very slight graininess about the sauce (but that could have been my imagination cos I was very conscious of trying to detect any difference!)

There was a bit of a burnt-on crust around the top sides of the dish, so I think the sauce must have risen and fallen in the oven, leaving sauce on the upper sides of the dish to get burnt on.

Still, not the disaster I was worried it would be!
