Apart from the fact that it's nutritionally bereft, how do you make yours?

fry onions
boil, then mash potatoes

mix together, stir in broken up corned up beef

serve with baked beans

delish

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 27/01/2009 23:09

So there's enough "stuff" in the corned beef to not need anything further?

See, I'd be tempted to cook the spuds in stock or something. Or fry the onions in something...

Have googled and James Martin adds marmite and red wine

I'm certain my mum never did that!

I like to keep it simple

dizzydixies · 27/01/2009 23:10

I always chuck parsley in mine for some reason and if in the mood for a bit of kick some lea & perrins doesn't go amiss either!

Oh and it has to go with beetroot.

Mushrooms, onion, herbs, garlic, bacon (sometimes), Lea & perrins. serve with beans and cheesy mustard mash.
DH is the king of this dish in our house so he usually does it.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 27/01/2009 23:14

One tin of corned beef between three????

(DH will eat a lot of it...)

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 27/01/2009 23:17

yes, thats the point of the dish - it was invented to make the meat go further, much like scottish stovies

burstingbug do you serve it with cheesy mustard mash or do you mix the corned beef with cheesy mustard mash?

burstingbug · 27/01/2009 23:19

Errr dunno, been a while since we had it. Will ask DH tomorrow.
Think the potato is mixed in it with a little extra on the side.

dizzydixies · 27/01/2009 23:20

sorry, didn't mean to put you on the spot, we 're a huge fan of cheesy mash here and wasn't sure if it was nice with the corned beef all mixed in

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 27/01/2009 23:20

DH now saying sliced carrots as well

OP posts:
burstingbug · 27/01/2009 23:21

Cheese features in/on most meals here!

dizzydixies · 27/01/2009 23:22

MaryMotherofCheeses I'd be more inclined to put carrots in stovies - is he getting confused between the two of them?

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 27/01/2009 23:24

Nah, we're in Wales. We don't know about stovies

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 27/01/2009 23:27

lol

well to me corned beef hash is potatoes/corned beef & onion - I don't know about the carrotand I add parsley and Lea and perrins so what would I know

stovies are carrot, onion, any left over meat (mince/beef/sausages etc) & potatoes

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 27/01/2009 23:27

I thougth a stovie was a large round flat bread roll???

OP posts:
MaryMotherOfCheeses · 27/01/2009 23:28

No, stotties perhaps??? have I made that up?

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 27/01/2009 23:29
