JO's chicken and leek stroganoff - anyone made it?

It's in the MOF book which I'm loving. Quite fancy the stroganoff but I'm worried it may be a bit bland - any opinions?

Just seems like there's a lack of herbs, so the flavour comes from the cream and white wine which could be a bit blah.

Also I don't have fresh parsley, will dried work? What about sour cream (like in beef stroganoff) instead of single cream?

Cheers.

ooh yes - do report back. I've just got the book out of the library, and am trying to decide where to start.

sorry for my thickness, but what's marigold powder?

marigold powder - it is a tub of stock powder in a powder form, it looks posh! and is lose stock powder. It works out much cheaper and has a good flavour, esp for soups and pasta sauces.

You will find it along with the stock cubes in the supermarket

this site has loads of different marigold stocks

Loved the chicken and leek stroganoff and even fussy dsis had seconds! which is unheard of! didn't add the mushrooms though so it was more leek and chicken in sauce also do not put the rice on before you start cooking otherwise it boils almost dry!

Ivykaty44 · 27/01/2009 21:26

twims - was that white or brown rice?

Twims · 27/01/2009 22:10

white rice - it says follow instrctions on rice - which says cook for 10 minutes yet the rest of the recipe take about 19 minutes

We had the fajitas tonight Ronald and we had the chicken and white wine casserole on Sunday both were fab!

Ronaldinhio · 27/01/2009 22:49

thanks ik44 - wonder how I've managed to miss that one? I'm in the USA and haven't noticed it, must have a proper look.

decided against it tonight. have made chicken satay instead, yum.

from the MOF book I made the beef and ale stew, slow cooked it for hours - it was fabulous. Great for a wintery night! I did add a dollop of worcester sauce to it to give it a bit more of a kick. I get the feeling JO can over-simplify his dishes which might need a bit more oomph! I followed his spag bol recipe and ended adding tomato puree and red wine vinegar as it was a bit tasteless before. Was delicious in the end!

Thanks twims - I usually use brown rice and it takes nearer 35-40 so will use that instead of the white I got this week for a change!
