I am cold and I have been ill and off my food. I now feel like eating.

What would be lovely and comforting and veggie?

Things I have thought of already:

soup
jacket potatoes
cauliflower cheese

Thank you

Yum. I love rocket salad too. It is the only way I can get dd1 to eat cheese at all -the shavings of parmesan on a rocket salad.

What's wrong with baked beans?
(Apart from making you squirm.)

mileniwmffalcon · 27/01/2009 17:06

i'd have daal and chapatis and samosas with mango chutney for dipping. mmmmm

janeite · 27/01/2009 17:07

I just don't like them Skay - it's the sweet tomatey stuff and the squidgy texture - they just make me shudder!

Daal is a v good suggestion.

Have you tried adding a few spices?

I quite regularly add Tomato Ketchup(Takes away sweetness) and a litle bit of red chilli.

  • Yes ... to Baked Beans.

Sorry Skay - I don't "do" tomato ketchup either!

Chilli Non Carne

Thai veg/tofu curry

Sausage, mash, gravy

skay · 27/01/2009 17:14

O.K.

janeite · 27/01/2009 17:16

Meals for this week as inspired by this thread are:

today - jacket potatoes, cheese, salad
tomorrow - Thai vege curry and rice
Thursday - big pan of roasted veggies
Friday - out for a curry for dp's birthday; daal will be included!
Saturday - sausage, mash and savoy cabbage

I feel a lot better just thinking about it!

Sunday - might make a risotto for dp and I.

Now - who'd like to start us on comfort puddings?

Ideally nothing that needs wrapping in paper and boiling, as they scare me!

OP posts:
Molesworth · 27/01/2009 17:27

Mushroom risotto overrated

How is this possible?

Make with white wine and a lot of porcini, butter and parmesan.

As for puddings ... all puddings are comfort food in my book. Preferably involving proper custard.

janeite · 27/01/2009 17:29

Ah yes but Molesworth - can we narrow it down to two? One for dp's birthday and one for Sunday lunch?

Jamaican ginger cake and custard

Molesworth · 27/01/2009 17:32

Rhubarb crumble?
Creme brulee?
Tarte tatin?
Prunes soaked in Armagnac and served with good chocolate ice cream and mascarpone, sundae style?

Molesworth · 27/01/2009 17:32

Cranachan?

SoMuchToBits · 27/01/2009 17:33

Plum crumble with custard!

janeite · 27/01/2009 17:35

Ooh I'll take one of everything suggested so far please - except the prunes!

Cranachan is sounding very appealing indeed. Do you have a recipe?

Or a clafoutis - has anybody got a good, easy non-cherry recipe for that?

OP posts:
janeite · 27/01/2009 17:35

Love plum crumble too - especially with some flaked almonds in the topping.

Stuffed jalapeno peppers

Blackberry and apple flapjack crumble

janeite · 27/01/2009 17:40

Where do you buy the jalopenos in order to stuff Mary? And what do you stuff them with?

Molesworth · 27/01/2009 17:40

Cranachan recipe

I had cranachan on Burns night and utterly delicious it was too!

janeite · 27/01/2009 17:41

Oh yum - that looks good. Never seen it with shortbread before.

You should be able to buy jalapeno peppers from a good sized supermarket. Something like cream cheese is good...
