What's the cheapest way to buy good quality flour for use in breadmakers?

I am loving my new panasonic breadmaker, but part of the reason for getting one was to spend less money on bread. We were spending around £3-£4 on a load of "artisan" bread. Now, a bag of organic spelt flour is costing me about £2 and I use half of it per loaf. Add in the yeast, sugar, salt etc (plus electricity) and i would guess it it costing me £1.50 a loaf? Ok ,its a lot better than what we were paying before, but we are going through it at a rate of knots! I have also bought granary and white flour for variation.

So, there must be a better way of buying it than Waitrose (my local supermarket). I would good quality - organic would be good, but not the be all and end all. Where can I buy it cheaper - and maybe in bulk?

I have just found this and the prices compare very favourably with waitrose.

Yeouch -- the postage is quite hefty

Yes, but its free postage if you buy 25 kilos. Sounds a lot, but I think we go through 1.5 - 2 kilos a week.

we bulk buy in 25kg sacks, your local wholdefood shop may order for you

The problem with 25k sacks is that it is all one kind of flour. I liked the website i linked to as it all came in 1K bags so you could buy 25k but in all different kinds of flour.

does anyone rate doves flour?

i too have recently got a panasonic breadmaker, and i can't keep up with demand from my family. i need 550g of flour but bags are either 1kg or 1.5kg....they do a wide range and they have all been tasty so far

The cheapest way would be to move near to Tichborne in Hampshire where they have to give it to you for free

look it's a really cool story!

I grew up in Cheriton and we always had our flour in pillowcases as we got it from here each year!

I use dove's farm it's fine. We have a sack of white and a sack of wholemeal, on top of that I buy a few bags of rye and just do different mixes. We are lucky thought to have a cellar, space not an issue.
