I have done the vegetable soup, minced beef wellington and spag bol.

All were lovely. I have made the same old spag bol in our house for years, and this one was so different.

Roast lamb (disaster) and lamb stew with dumplings (lush). Giving the fish pie a go next week

McDreamy · 21/01/2009 13:51

Having the lasagne tonight - will let you know!

undertheduvet · 21/01/2009 15:39

I've made chicken and leek stroganoff (left out the mushrooms), quick salmon stir fry, salmon & pesto parcels and pork and cider stew. All were lovely and really easy to prepare and cook. Having crunchy garlic chicken tonight so will see what thats like. Easily one of the better cookery books I have bought and would really recommend it. Even DH is going to give some recipies a go and he is a total non cook!

nailpolish · 21/01/2009 15:41

salmon fishcakes - having them tonight. i am using smoked fish though

tinierclanger · 21/01/2009 15:45

Rogan Josh - lovely
Chicken stew - lovely
Fish pie - great
Broccoli and pesto pasta - 'more of a summer dish' (DP!)
Crunchy garlic chicken - vg

It is a brilliant book! Currently ruling our meal plans! Going to try the Thai curry tomorrow.

jennymac · 23/01/2009 08:40

DH has made the tikka masala which was absolutely gorgeous and the sweet potato and chorizo soup which was not great but edible!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 12/02/2009 11:21

Pasta with camembert and spinach
Aloo gobi
Trout with mustard and oats
Baked creamy leeks

All were good but the camembert pasta was fab. Am hugely impressed with this book - it is so easy and the step-by-step photos really help.

I love the way the stew section just gives you basic recipes with simple alterations, also the evolution salad idea is brill.

I have a shelf full of Jamie books but this one is going to get used a lot....

taliac · 12/02/2009 15:43

Chicken with parmesan and prosciutto (the one you bang) - great and v easy.

bigTillyMint · 12/02/2009 15:47

DH (who is a total non-cook too!) was supposed to be cooking from it - has only made a curry so far, which was nice.

I will tell him it's his turn tomorrow night - chicken stew sounds good

weepootleflump · 12/02/2009 15:56

Chicken & white wine stew - lovely
Beef & Ale stew - lovely
Lasagne - not very impressed
Sizzling beef with spring onions & black bean sauce - just ok, wouldn't make again.

ThePellyandMe · 12/02/2009 15:58

I made the chorizo and sweet potato soup. I thought the recipe a bit odd because it contained curry powder but you can't taste that, its a really lovely full of flavour soup.

ProfYaffle · 12/02/2009 16:00

I've only made the meatballs, unfortunately I got distracted while they were cooking and overcooked them. They were still quite nice despite the charcoal though.

morrocan lamb

CrackerNut · 12/02/2009 16:12

I have made the chilli today in my slow cooker.

Hoping and praying that it goes down well with the kids, but am almost 100% certain that Ds won't like it.

I also want to try the cauliflower and macaroni cheese recipe and the fish pie one.

My brother has so far done the crispy garlic chicken, the burgers and the cauli and macaroni cheese.

cuppachar · 12/02/2009 16:14

I've made chicken stew, beef stew, pork stew, spag bol, chilli, pasta with peas and bacon, macaroni cauliflower cheese, parsnip soup, chorizo and sweet potato soup, tomato soup, spicy moroccan fish, chicken fajitas, and others that I've forgotten!

It's a great book - really 'do-able' tasty meals. Only fault I've found so far is some of the recipes (eg. spag bol, chilli) include far too much water, or maybe that's just me?

CrackerNut · 12/02/2009 18:29

Cuppa we have just eaten the chilli and it definatly has too much water in it. I'd be tempted not to add any at all next time I do it.

Dd1 ate it all but she will eat anything, Dd2 didn't like the kidney beans and Ds said it was ok but please don't make it again lol.

hellsbells76 · 12/02/2009 18:43

Oh wow - the fish pie was just incredible. I heart Jamie.

looseleaf · 12/02/2009 19:21

I've just discovered how amazing Jamie's food is as read this thread and googled his website.
I made his amazing lamb stew with pomegranate and walnuts (substituting cranberry juice as he suggested, as cheaper). I've never had a better stew let alone make it myself!!

Are any of his Ministry of Food recipes online or do I need to buy the book?

bluebread · 12/02/2009 19:25

Macaroni and cauliflower cheese - delicious and so much easier than making a traditional white sauce - just melt cheese with some creme fraiche in a bowl placed over the pan cooking the pasta and cauliflower. Quick and yummy.

TwistinMyMelonMan · 12/02/2009 20:22

Thanks!

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 12/02/2009 21:12

i did some pasta dish with peas and frinage frais and lots of parmean cheese and smoked bacon - i only used half the parmesan it said and it was so strong we all felt it was rank and too cheesy - havent done anything since.........

cuppachar · 13/02/2009 16:38

Nappyzone - we really liked the pasta dish with peas and bacon so must be just a matter of taste I guess! Did you use fresh or dried parmesan?

Zaftig · 13/02/2009 16:46

So far I've made:

Sizzling beef thingy - v. lovely.
Beef and ale stew - delicious, needed more liquid than recipe said.
Chicken tikka masala - was lovely but way too much liquid.
Pork kebabs - lovely, even my 4 year old scoffed his.
Cod and bacon thingy - everyone liked the fish but not with bacon. Boo.

The garlic chicken one is next on my list.
