How much and when do your primary school DCs eat after school?

I am struggling to figure this eating after school thing out. They have school dinners in the day. They come home STARVING (in a whiney 8 year old voice) so they have a banana or a snack. They have proper supper like pasta or roast or something big at 5.30 or 6 and come bed time at 7.30 - 8 they are starving again.

What do you feed your DCs and how does it work? Do they have 2 suppers?

sort of...I delay desert

I think at this age, if they are hungry you feed them! How about a bowl of cereal or some toast at bed time? I can tell if mine are properly hungry or just biscuit-hungry by offering them plain bread and butter, or cornflakes (no sugar) or toast!

So do you think
Snack after school
Supper
Snack before bed

Geez, I need to buy more snacks!

DS has bread and butter, or slice of toast at CMs.

Then proper supper 6.30pm.

Then a couple of biscuits.

Then fruit.

He has however, discovered that if he says he's starving at bedtime, I give him more fruit, which he thinks is great because he gets to stay up that 10 minutes extra ! (so desperate to stay up that he'll eat an apple...)

I offer fruit once home (DS2 ate two apples on way home from school today and still wanted a banana at 4pm) but nothing else (if they are hungry an apple is fine).

Then tea - sometimes snacky, sometimes pasta or baked beans - never a roast (impressed!) at about 5pm.

That is usually OK. Maybe more fruit later if still hungry.

6yo, he might have a snack, but only if ds2 has been baking, so a fairy cake or biscuit 2/3 days a week. Tea around 5.30pm. Occasionally weetabix around 7pm, but that is quite rare.

Ds1 (5.9) has 2 slices of bread and butter at about 3.30-4pm, then a proper meal at 5-5.30, followed by fruit. Then a drink of milk at about 6.45, just before bedtime.

DS has a good breakfast of porridge, toast and tea. We pay for him to have Fruit and Milk and breaktime. He has school dinners, he comes home and has a snack, and then at 5.30 he has a big cooked dinner and pudding. He also has warm milk and a couple of biscuits at 7.30 before bed at 8.
Mind you he also has 2 build up drinks a day and build up powders. He is 4'8 and weighs 3 stone 8; he is very thin.

Saphron, how old is DS?

I have two Dcs, one who eats for Britain, is constantly hungry, growing at an alarming rate. The other is skiiny mini and underweight, picky but eats a good amount but needs constant filling up.

Mine are always hungry it seems. They have a breakfast of ceral, toast, or egg on toast etc, sometimes with fruit too, then a school dinner. They come home and have a snack before dinner which is around 4.30-5pm, often have seconds but rarely deserts as they have those at school. They'll also usually have a snack before bedtime.

Dd is 7 next month, ds1 was 5 in Oct and ds2 was 2 last week. Ds2 tends to graze more during the day as well as eating breakfast, lunch, dinner as well. They're all very active children though and rarely sit still so they need it.

He is 10, and he eats as much as his father in a day.
