I have a tub of each in my fridge thanks to a miniscule amount required in 2 different recipes. What do I do with them?

Creme fraiche can be stirred through savoury sauces - I have a recipe for chicken and wild mushrooms in creme fraiche. Saute the cubed chicken, add the soaked dried mushrooms and their liquour, add sherry if you wish, reduce down and stir in the creme fraiche just before serving.

Fromage frais would be nice with stewed fruit or fruit salad/compote.

Dollop of either on fruit salad is lovely.

Put whole carrots, sausages or chicken breasts in a roasting tin. Mix together a table spoonful of honey and a table spoonful of grain mustard in a mug. Fill up to the top with boiling water and stir. Pour over the sausages/carrots/chicken.

Cook in the oven for about 35 mins (depends on oven etc.) Take the sausages/carrots/chicken out of the pan and stir in half a pot of creme fraiche. Pour the creamy/mustardy juice back over the carrots/chicken/sausages.

Delish.

Oh yum, I always include a tub of creme fraiche in my weekly shop!

Great stirred through pasta with pesto and anything else left in the fridge.

Mooseheart · 18/01/2009 20:11

Littlefish, will have to use that recipe next week! Thanks! I love easy dishes.

Littlefish · 18/01/2009 20:26

Mooseheart - it's fabulous with sausages. Makes them a real meal (if you see what I mean!)

The only problem is that the roasting tin is horrible to get clean afterwards if you leave the tin in the oven for too long. It just glues itself to the sides!

Mooseheart · 18/01/2009 20:31

Yes, I can imagine. I hate scrubbing pans. Maybe a ceramic dish would work better?

Pleased you say it works well with sausages as planning to have them this week.

God I'm boring...

My easiest, quickest, healthy ish tea for my 2 DSs on a work night when we running late is:

Boil kettle, pour the hot water onto some dried egg noodles. Whilst this steeps put some creme fraiche into a saucepan, add grated cheese, ham, frozen peas and/or any other veg you fancy. Stir for a few min , throw the drained noodles in and seve.

Both kids love it and enjoy their worms!!

Some great ideas here. Thank you

Mooseheart - I've got a rubber/silicone baking tin which is the best thing I've found as the mustard/honey doesn't stick as much.

stir creme fraiche through pasta with salmon, chives and peas (or sweetcorn). My Ds loves this and he is a fussy little thing

Lionstar · 18/01/2009 21:43

Fried courgettes, smoked salmon & creme fraiche over tagliatelle

Kidney beans, aubergine (or basil) pesto, creme fraiche over pasta (we use conchigle)

As others have said, a couple of spoons of Creme Fraiche makes any pasta sauce nice and creamy.

If I make Chilli I always put a dollop on the top of the chilli on everyone plate so that it slowly melts down into the sauce. The dc love it because it makes theirs more creamy!
