Cookery courses.

I would love to do a cookery course that teaches about lots of basics but not the really simple stuff. My mum didnt cook much so Ive not really had anyone to learn from and I have enormous gaps in my skills. I can cook a fair few dishes quite well but I cant experiment or it turns out crap. I would like to know more about herbs and spices and cookery techniques. Do courses like this exist?

Bumping for you.

what is it that you want to know about herbs and spices?

What goes together? Or when and which to put them in the pan first and cook of before adding meat?

Deliah, I found was really good for starting to cook as I never had a disater. She explains exactly what to do, whereas I find some cookery books tell me to do something but either expect me to have the knowledge or only partly explain.

So would recommend her book with her face on the front.

The new Jamie Oliver book also looks really good and there are some good reports on here about the book - that has some excellent dishes in and strectch the cooking just a bit.

Or try your local college - but colleges have difficulty with funding so I have noticed a lot of courses withdrawn localy, so this may also be the case where you are.

It depends where you are in the country.

If you get a copy of Good Food Magazine there are lots of adverts in the back for places offerring cookery courses.

I would try your local college first though as they might be cheaper.

I have the delia book which has helped a lot but I would like the practical experience. I might try the Jamie one.

I will try the Good Food Magazine.

Im in London btw.
