divide by 6 & multiply by 4?

Or is it more complicated than that?

Thank-you to anyone who can help me

take off a third.

LadyOfWaffle · 13/01/2009 22:25

But yeah, divide by 6 and times by 4

Isaidno · 13/01/2009 22:26

Divide by 6 and multiply by 4 should be fine. What type of cake is it? A sponge should have equal quantities of fat, flour and sugar.

4 oz flour, 4 oz sugar, 4 oz butter if it's a normal sponge cake. An egg is usually about 2 oz so it's the four ingredients in equal proportions, you see.

SniffyHock · 13/01/2009 22:29

It's 4,4,4,2
6,6,6,3 etc. (using oz)

pasturesnew · 13/01/2009 22:30

i.e. as MarlaSinger said. For other cake recipes you'd have to do what you suggested, it's just easier for a sponge cake. Once my DH worked with a lady called Victoria Spong. She didn't think it was a funny name, though.

lucysmam · 13/01/2009 22:30

it's a medeira cake for my noahs ark creation. I have 2 different recipes to try out but no way is the tin big enough for 6 egg cake mix without spilling over the top.

take off a third is divide by 6 & multiply by 4, isn't it?

Isaidno & Marla . . . you have both confuddled my brain, equal amounts of fat, flour and sugar as in equal to the weight of the eggs or equal to each other?

lmao pasturesnew, she may not have but I certainly do. Poor woman

Would sponge be easier since I don't have to make the oval shape for the boat now I have the tin?

lucysmam · 13/01/2009 22:34

Marla, yeah. Much better, my brain's clicked on thank-you.

If 4 eggs = 8oz then 8oz of flour, sugar & butter, yeah?

I can't remember what madeira cake is now. Is it like a thicker kind of cake to make carving easier to make Noahs Arks etc.? Your maths is right anyway lucysmam, take off a third is the same as divide by 6 and times by 4.

lucysmam · 13/01/2009 22:42

right, cracked it. I will give that a go in the morning with the lo then, thank-you for being patient with my not so fab maths

pasturesnew, yeah. I asked on here a while ago & was told medeira would be easier, & the recipe in the book is for medeira as well. But since I have the right shape tin, I don't need to worry about carving it so can just do a sponge which I think I can work out now

Am sure it will be lovely.
