Does anyone have a good curry recipe for children...

... particularly one that would suit my DD at almost 9 months?

She has had curry at nursery and loves anything with rice and I would love to start her off on these kinds of flavours early (without putting her off).

I was going to direct you to a thread I started here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1379/627895
but then I saw the age of your dd!
At that age, I'd just do red lentils with a hint of cumin and coriander powder.

Well personally I wouldn't curry them. Not when they're still so nice and tender. I'd just roast them with some baby veg and lots of olive oil.

DD (8mo) loves this one.

Fruity rice with chicken and apricot

This recipe - for babies from seven to 10 months - draws from one fed to North African babies.

It provides two servings for a seven-month-old or one for a 10-month-old. It is suitable for those intolerant to gluten, milk and lactose.

It takes about 20 minutes to prepare and is a good source of calcium.

1 teaspoon organic olive oil
half a small onion, chopped
1 small peeled fresh apricot or two dried ones chopped.
1 tablespoon chicken breast or thigh, raw or cooked
1 plum tomato, skinned, seeded if desired and chopped, or two teaspoons tomato puree.
2 tablespoons sultanas
quarter teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary
pinch each ground coriander and cinnamon.
quarter teaspoon finely-chopped
garlic
90ml water
1 tablespoon basmati rice

Heat the oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add the onion and fry until soft, about two minutes.

Mix in the apricot, chicken, tomato or puree and sultanas. Add the herbs, spices, garlic and water.

Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

In a separate pan, boil the rice. Add half the cooked rice to the chicken mix and reserve the rest. Roughly puree or mash, then add the reserved rice and mix well.

If your child is not yet used to lumpy food, you may want to puree the lot in a liquidiser. Add extra water is a thinner consistency is desired.

You could serve this dish with couscous instead of rice.

Lol OrmIrian - that was my first reaction to the thread title too!

The spicy lentils sounds like a good idea, and you could do something similar with potatoes, parsnips, cauliflower etc.

Spinach dhal

40g red lentils
25g long grain white rice
Pinch of ground coriander
pinch of ground tumreric
pinch of ground cumin
250ml low sodium (or homemade) veg stock or plain water
25g chopped spinach (can be from frozen)
1 large chopped fresh tomato (or a couple of tablespoons of chopped tinned tomatoes)

put together into a saucepan and boil then simmer for 25-30 mins

blend for a smoother texture.

I used to use this recipe a lot with my DS (but would often do larger quanities and then freeze extra portions.)

I would also sometimes add chicken or lamb to this.

chicken
coriander
cumin
ginger
lentils (on the side, or in the curry)
rice (you can dye the rice yellow with turmeric if you like)
have some natural yoghurt on hand to chuck in, if it gets a bit spicy
My DD loves it

Forgot to say, that this recipe is from a book called 'feeding your baby', and is under the category 6-9 months

This Annabell Karmel one is lovely

DD loves it. Also Annabel Karmels Muligtwany (sp?!) chicken is yummy and very mildly spicy.

Wow thanks for all the suggestions! I will be having some fun in the kitchen - all children are safe with me honest (I am a vegetarian)
