Ever cooked with it?

What shall I do with my vellery?

Was thinking of doing it with chickpeas and spicey tomato on the hob, but am just guessing really.

Well, I can report that it was a bit marrowish, but firmer and dryer. Dh said it felt like a cross between pear and pineapple in texture. There was something pineapplish about it, he's right. Not a very strong flavour at all, in fact it tasted of spicey tomatoes and chickpeas, so I can't really comment on flavour.

I'm not hammering down the veg shop door for another, it wasn't that exciting, but it was perfectly okay. The kids liked it.

When I saw this I thought it was going to be a baby name thread, and was all ready to launch in with "Oh ffs, it's VALERIE..........!"

Arf. Y'know I nearly made the thread title "Vellery (not a baby name query)" .

what is vellery?! Never heard of it

Carmenere · 13/01/2009 17:52

I've never heard of it either, can you do a link to a pic?

AliceTheCamelHasGotTheHump · 14/01/2009 12:31

Can't find a pic. It is a squash, orangey and cream stripes. Shaped like a chubby teardrop. About the size of two grapefruits. Thin, easily cut skin. Greenish white flesh. Not many seeds.
