When can a toddler start eating prawns?

Hi everyone.

I have DD who is 13.5mths and I wanted to know if it's ok to give her prawns? Probably a silly question. I know to watch out for an allergy when we first give them, but I just wondered if there was a 'minimum age' to give them.

Thanks.

Am sure I gave them to ds after he was 1.

Should be fine now I would have thought unless there's a history of shellfish/prawn allergy.

they will be fine as long as they are cooked. it is raw shellfish you have to be careful with due to the risk of food poisoning. There may be a small chance of an allergic reaction but you know to watch for that anyway.

I gave mine after 1 - my brother has a shellfish, egg and peanut allergy so was cautious and gave them the first time at home so near a hospital just in case! Pleased to say all three of mine have no allergies - first generation to not have any (so far) and scoff prawns whenever they get the chance. A great thing for quick meals and snacks. Hope she likes them too!

Well we've been cutting back on the caviar.

my ds had his first one on christmas day, dh made prawn cocktail starter and ds loved it. he's 17 months but got told it's fine after 12 months.

I still haven't done it, as my DH keeps eating them or putting them in a sauce she can't have! (tactical? I reckon!) But thanks for your advice!
