It needs to be a basic one with not too much sugary stuff.

Please tell me as dumbly as possible with all the ingredients and everything.

I've tried searching for it online but it doesn't make sense to me.

Thanks all

All in one Victoria sponge is the best and you can always buy some ready rolled icing to put over the top and decorate.

Easy peasy. Have you got a electric whisk?

6 oz Self Raising Flour
6 oz Caster Sugar
6 oz Baking Margarine
3 Large Eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla essence / extract
1 and a half tsps of baking powder
Extra marg for greasing
Strawberry jam for middle

  1. Put oven on to 180 degrees C.
  2. Grease the inside of the bottom of two 7ins sandwich tins with extra marg and line bottom of tins with baking paper.
  3. Sieve all dry ingredients into a bowl.
  4. Add marg and eggs and vanilla essence.
  5. Whisk until light and fluffy and fully combined.
  6. Pour into sandwich tins
  7. Bake in oven for 25 mins. They should have started to come away from the edge of the tin
  8. Turn out onto wire rack
  9. sandwich two cakes together with jam

Always a winner in the chocolate household. Got ways of varying it for chocolate version if you're keen??

Ok I think I can do that (I've NEVER made a cake lol)

Do'nt have an electric whisk either but I assume I can do it with a hand held one? Just take a longer time.

Have you tried the good food magizine website? they have loads of fool proof recipes and often have ones that children can do too so can't be that hard

these are the easy one take a look

Yep hand held is fine, tho will take a lot longer and a lot more arm action...... they're worth getting tho if you find you're a natural (about £15 from Tesco / Argos - I only started making cakes about 6 months ago and I love it now!!)

OK well I'm gonna need to buy the ingrediants and I think I'll get a bigger tin as its meant to be for about 40 people (why oh why do I jump in at the deep end!!) I dont think I can afford an electric whisk at the mo, Might see if my parents have one and borrow theirs instead.

If you are going to vary the size, the cooking time will change so be aware. There might be some way of working it out. I would make two, one for the candle blowing out thang, and then have one on the side so when you cut it up and dish it out, everyone gets a piece and you don't have to faff about working out the extra proportions.

P.S. Only if you're making them at the same time. Or you can use the same tins twice. It's such a relatively easy recipe that it doesn't take long and the first one can be cooling while you do the second....
