How do I get my DS to eat more fruit?

He is nearly 2 and he will eat bananas and that's about it.

He used to eat bluberries, strawberries, nectarines and grapes, but he just won't eat any of them any more.

He will eat dried fruit bars and raisins. Are these sufficient or should I persevere with trying to get him to eat more fresh fruit?

hm...don't think you have all that much to be worried about...
how is he wiht vegetable?
Tbh, I think they o through phases...all mine went from eating everything to being fussy and ms and es are now pretty unfussy, es more than ms, but he is getting there, and ys is making progress...ys is 4 now...

What I do now is offer, ask them to try and if they do try they get praised even if they persist they dont like it!

You could try heating porridge and adding berries, then mash them in, hardly noticable

Vegetables we get by with. He'll gobble sweetcorn and peas, but isn't too good with any other vegetable whole.

He will eat any veg in soup and I do lots of Veg in with stews and bolognese,he also loves tomato pasta so i think he's fine on the veg side of things.

i would just like him to eat more fruit.

i do give him fruit juice as well, had forgotten about that.

Mine used to eat no fruit so I just gave him humzingers and fruitapuras. Then one day he just decided to pick up an apple and eat it.
Don't stress - dried fruit really is OK - trying to force the issue will make matters worse

Try making fruit kebabs with him. I use fresh fruit in the summer and tinned whole fruit in the winter. I also use the tinned fruit to make faces on the plate, but this is the only time my DC are allowed to play with fruit. lol

trixymalixy · 09/01/2009 23:23

I give him the humzingers he loves those.

Maybe i am worrying over nothing.

i just keep seeing toddlers munching away on apples and wish my DS would do that.

actually if he is brill with vegetables, I would think fruit is more a pleasure , iykwim...obviously keep tryng, but certainly don't worry about it...if anything vegetables are far better for them than fruit!

Chop soft fruit, whizz in blender, add little watered down orange juice to thin it and make a drink, or mix with yoghurt for pudding.

FairLadyRantALot · 09/01/2009 23:34

tric=xy, for all you know the applesa re the only healthy thing those mums may get down their little ones

MollyCherry · 10/01/2009 21:39

If his diet is otherwise good, why not make it a pudding with some chocolate sauce (or nutella nuked in the microwave for 10 seconds) in a little pot for dipping. You could also use fromage frais if you'd rather.

IAteMakkaPakka · 10/01/2009 21:43

I was just about to suggest dipping. Pear slices, apple slices, tangerine segments, strawberries, chopped fruit and a fork - all with a pot of plain yoghurt to dip it into. DS has just discovered dipping and now dips his veg in his mashed tatties

Smoothies are good or make a varied and colourful fruit salad and leave out for him to pick at.

My ds is a healthy bouncing fit energetic 7 year old who has not eaten a piece of fruit since he was 1. Not any. None. Nada. He eats vegetables, including sprouts, but won't eat anything that's been within a million miles of fruit - jam for example, even surrounded by doughnut! Except raisins, which he refuses to believe are anything to do with fruit.

You just have to try a bit harder to get them to have their 5 a day - how about raw vegetables, like carrots, or celery? I've given up worrying about it - there's fruit available and presumably one day he'll eat some of it.

Be careful of the dried fruit bars, btw - a lot of them are packed with sugar. Try raw veg instead.
