Dh basically told me last night that I've reverted to doing the same things week in, week out.

It's true. But isn't it normal too?

I like to try new things a lot of the time.......i'd be tempted to tell him to try and do some cooking!!

I think it depends how much time you have when you shop too. I've just come back from Waitrose and they had a recipe card for some oriental fish that looked nice so I'll try that this weekend. If I had been in a hurry though I wouldn't have seen the card or had time to hunt for the extra ingredients.

I try out new recipes all the time because I get so bored of cooking.

I gave dh a signed cookery book as a present once and got him into cooking from there.
Every other Saturday or so, he'll try a new recipe. Its great as we don't really get to go out for a meal by ourselves.
He does enjoy doing 'glory' cooking but doesn't do the everyday stuff.

I do new things at least once a week, but usually revert to the old favourites which are quick and easy!

Luckily we are all creatures of habit

I wouls say about once every two years

I kid you not

I really should sort that

boogeek · 09/01/2009 18:50

Just last week I decided I was going to try new recipes more often - we do the same old all the time, too, even though I have shelves of recipe books.

I try something new about once a month, simply because we get such nice fresh stuff here, our butcher is great and we have a really good fishmonger who also stocks game. There's so much choice in this town, and the fruit and veg is local and fresh too. It would be a crime not to try things, which means lots of experimenting. Luckily I enjoy cooking. About once a year I do something which simply doesn't work, or which no one likes.

It really is worth messing about and having a go.

Am going to try something once a fortnight.
I think what has put me off is that the last 2 things I made did not go down very well, so felt like wasted effort and money.

You've inspired me again (and made me feel better NewQueen!)

lol, like newqueen, maybe once a year? i might make variations on a theme, or improvise with what i have but i rarely use recipes except for baking.

puppydetox · 11/01/2009 11:10

in my defence, i have a toddler and a 5 year old, so madly experimental cooking would likely be wasted. also i have a fairly wide repertoire of "standard" dishes. also i suppose by doing a recipe you risk it not turning out and at tea time i want somehting i know is reliable.
