Got a steamer?

snafu · 30/03/2005 13:56

Don't know about steaming them exactly but you can 'poach' them with a bit of stock in a saucepan.

purplelumpy · 30/03/2005 13:59

how do i poach

Cut into strips and stir fry in a tiny bit of olive oil in a non-stick frying pan. Only takes 10 mins.

What about making a stew - fry off chicken with onion then add veg and stock with a dash of tomato puree, season and add herbs to taste. Cover and simmer for 45 mins-1 hour until chicken is tender. Or do you have a pressure cooker, as they'd probably only take 30 mins in there with a little liquid to create the steam .

To poach - put chicken breasts in saucepan with enough stock to keep them moist but not cover them iyswim. Put lid on and simmer gently until cooked through.

Well, that's how I do it and no-one's died yet

purplelumpy · 30/03/2005 14:07

how long do i cook them for snafu?

I poach chicken in milk for dd. Just seal them in a bit of oil and then put about an inch of milk in the pan and simmer until they are cooked through. Use the milk to make a sauce.

throckenholt · 30/03/2005 14:08

cut into cubes, fry in a pan with bit of butter, when no longer pink, add a bit of water, put on the lid and simmer for maybe 10 minutes. Add a bit of gravy if you prefer.

snafu · 30/03/2005 14:09

Well depends how many you've got etc, but it doesn't take long. Just poke 'em with a knife to see if they're cooked like I do!

purplelumpy · 30/03/2005 14:13

right so i put them in a saucepan with a little stock - right?

do i put the lid on??

OP posts:
throckenholt · 30/03/2005 14:23

yep - seems to be better if you put the lid on. Give them a stir or a shake every now and again.
