...where the host has hired a casino and croupiers etc. You would expect some food right?!??!

My sister has organised her party right down to the last detail, apart from the food. She is planning to have just crisps and dips. I think people will be expecting something more than that.

I was thinking of doing some posh canapes as a surprise. They have to be cold. Has anyone got any ideas?

A friend had held a 40th with a james bond theme. It was great !

But yes.... I would have expected food.

I would have needed a bit more than crisps after drinking martini (shaken, not stirred obviously !)

What a lovely sister you sound to make canapes... but I do think there needs to be a bit more.

ChirpyGirl · 08/01/2009 10:22

What time is the party? I might not expect food beyond crisps if it is after a certain time.
No idea for canapes though, sorry!

Exactly sleepycat!!!

So far i am thinking blinis with smoked salmon and creme fraiche, mozzarella balls, parma ham and sunblush tomatoes on skewers, prawns and avocado on skewers.

Do you think mini oatcakes with pate isn't really posh enugh?

Actually, how about blinis with caviar and sour cream?
very easy(sainsbo's sell blinis and caviar can just be cheap roe)
Or calamari with lemon wedges(octopussy...groan)
Mini yorkshire puddings with roast beef and horseradish, v british

Think the party is about 8ish, I'll need to check the invite.

xposts!

ChirpyGirl · 08/01/2009 10:28

Oh, 8ish? then yes, it needs food!

morningpaper · 08/01/2009 10:28

If it's about 8ish then I wouldn't expect food but I would probably have to leave about 11ish for a big fat kebab

morningpaper · 08/01/2009 10:29

If she's hired a casino surely they won't let you take your own food? Have you asked? You'd be better off asking them to provide.

trixymalixy · 08/01/2009 10:30

ha ha like the octopussy idea! Where can you buy calamari on its own though, i've only ever seen it in those mixed packs?

trixymalixy · 08/01/2009 10:31

Oh no, sorry it's in her house, it's a mobile casino thingy.

Bond would probably eat lots and lots of olives, on cocktail sticks in his martinis,

why not have have a look at the entertaining/catering catalogue that Waitrose do here www.waitrosedeliver.com/wdeliver/servlet/JSPs/shop/shopping_fs.jsp?siteCode=BI, as these may end up being cheaper than making them yourself when you consider the fiddly nature of all the ingredients and the time it will take to make them all, they have quite a good selection of different canapes

stroppyknickers · 08/01/2009 10:46

Ferrero Rocher. Isn't that what all ambassadors eat?

trixymalixy · 08/01/2009 11:39

I'd love to do a tray with a mountain of ferrro rocher on it. Just had a look and they're really expensive!!!

Re the ferro rocher - you could make a large cone out of paper and then have the sweets around the outside?
