Hello. Want something quick and easy to make but my saucepans are a nightmare to wash up. Just wondering if I can cook scrambled egg in a cup or bowl or something in the microwave? Would be for a 12 month old and me (pregnant) so needs to be safe but would make me do it a lot more often, we hardly ever eat egg at the moment.

Would be gratful of a quick answer as nothing for dinner!

Its better in the microwave says ds

hellogoodbye · 06/01/2009 18:28

Great! thanks. What do I do? Do I need butter or anything in with it? Do I just stick it in a mug and wisk it round and bung it in the micro?

yes, I think I do 40 secs for 1 egg, 1 minute for 2 eggs. Then mix and cook a bit longer.
Always do for short periods as overcooked is yuk and undercooked can always be cooked a bit more.

GrimmaTheNome · 06/01/2009 18:29

Yes, even my DH can do it in microwave.

ChasingSquirrels · 06/01/2009 18:29

I don't bother with butter, put a bit of milk in and whisk. I do them in old xmas pudding pots, but a mug would be fine I should think.

MrsSprat · 06/01/2009 18:31

Yes definitely, I do mine in a glass measuring jug for 2-3 mins with a few stirring breaks. Turn down the power if it's cooking too fast.

Washing up is much better too.

FAQtothefuture · 06/01/2009 18:35

yes you can (as others have already informed you)

that's what my DS's are eating as I type - microwade made scrambled eggs

PavlovtheCat · 06/01/2009 18:38

2 egg, touch milk, some butter, little pepper, in micorwavable dish. 30 secs on full power (covered with film or something), stir, 30 seconds, stir, and if needed another 20 at a time (we have a 1000w oven though so will be different).

It is delicious, but be aware that whatever pot you use will need a good scrub afterwards (not unlike in a pan)

PavlovtheCat · 06/01/2009 18:41

oh and if you take it out after the 1 min or so, and it is a little runny, leave it for a few seconds as it does continue to cook for a moment or two, i find this is the perfectly cooked egg. BUT if you think it needs a few more seconds and dont wait, you might overcook it.

My mother in law is very good at turning svrambled eggs green when she cooks them in the microwave

hellogoodbye · 06/01/2009 18:58

Thanks guys, just made it. DD loved it and ate it all up, which is really good for her.

Will be doing this again!

hello - i also find its a good way to add cheese, or some finely chopped vegetables (grated carrot or courgette) mixed in, the scrambled, DD likes that too.

hellogoodbye · 06/01/2009 20:37

Thats a really good idea Pav
