Breadmaker - Help please!

I am just about to use my new breadmaker but the recipes are in 'cups'. I have just googled to try and find out exactly how much a cup of flour weighs but it seems cups can be varying sizes (there dosent seem to be a standard). I know that the ingredients have to be measured exactly for the breadmaker to work so I am now stuck. Please can anyone tell me how much in gms (or oz) 2 cups of flour weighs.

you should have a plastic measure with the machine, doesn't that have cups on it?

The instructions only give cups? How odd - is it american? Anyhow, judging from my 'Breadmaker Bible' that gives metric/imperial and cups, 2 cups flour is 300 grams. 1 cup water is 225 ml if you need that too (8fl oz). Come to think - if you've got a measuring jug - 1 cup is half a US pint which is 8floz so you could try using that as a measure and see what it weighs...

Oh yes - just looked in the box and there it was! Do you know if the flour has to be levelled off to the top of the cup or heaped?

Grimma - it is a Morphy Richards - not sure if its American or not.

Level off at top of measure.

Thank you both for your help.

I have a Morphy Richards one (the compact one), if you get stuck with it.

I bought DH a Morphy Richards compact one - is it meant to make a rattling noise when kneading the dough? (I suspect not but wanted to check)

Mine is a bit noisy.
