We are having friends over and we see alot of them but when they do come over we always end up getting a take away so we have planned a murder mystery eveing and i said i would cook, now i can normally cook a nice meal when i follow something so looking here for some inspiration! There will be 6 of us ( one really not keen on Veg) Also have been give a slow cooker and have no real idea how to use it so anything i could chuck in that for the day would be great! Thank you

Aha. Was wondering if you could get hold of a slow cooker

Get some braising beef or a large piece of brisket, some red wine, beef stock, paprika. bay leaves, baby onions and mushrooms. Put the whole lot in the slow cooker on high. When it comes to the simmer, turn it down. If you put it on first thing in the morning it should be perfect for dinner.

If the meat is frozen, defrost first or it will take too long to heat up.

ohh that sounds nice, i could then just do separate Veg!

Oh wing it all the way pink

Sorry, I don't do recipes. School of chuck it all in cookery. Seems to work.

I'm doing ribs and jacket spuds, which I'll spoon out in advance bung in cheese and bacon and re wrap. Might do a tray of roast veg if I feel like it, but I figure people will be getting drunk and playing games, so nibbly quick things are easier!

nibble things would be good but as there are only 6 of us and our " murder night" is based around eating at table etc, thought it would be good to cook

we aer doing dim sum and crispy duck pancakes. the dim sum and pancakes take 10 mins in the steamer. the duck takes 5 hours but apart from put it in you don't need to do a thing! nigella express.

i have already made and frozen (smug emoticon) a slow-cooked beef casserole and a lamb one too. both the same, i coat the cubed meat in seasoned flour. Fry onions, garlic, celery til soft. remove. fry floured meat til brown. put onions etc back in. add cubed carrots, any other root veg you have knocking around, stir in half a bottle of red wine and stir until smooth gravy is formed. add stock cube and water and some herbs, then cook with lid on in a low oven heat for 2-3 hours. serve with jacket spuds or rice.

Tonight we've had glazed turkey (and quorn) & cous cous from Waitrose magazine it was lovely. Something I'll cook for guests in the future
