Food processor - Magimix 5200 or KitchenAid?

I am about to buy my first food processor but can't decide between the Magimix 5200 - www.johnlewis.com/230221351/Product.aspx - and the KitchenAid Artisan (the food processor one rather than the mixer) - www.johnlewis.com/230510654/Product.aspx

Does anyone have either of these? Is it good? Any particular reasons for choosing one over the other?

Thanks!

I have the magimix one and it is bloody brilliant - not one you can leave on show but it does just about everything!

My magimix is 'on show', it's the brushed chrome one like LIACC's link. I think it looks perfectly good in the kitchen.

The magimix is very sturdy, easy to clean and will last forever ! The Kitchen aid one is a bit retro looking for my tastes and Kitchen Aid are more known for their baking machines (you know what I mean), aren't they ? Whereas magimix are 'famous' for their great qualiry, bomb proof processors.

If I was going for a baking mixer then I'd go for Kitchen Aid over Magimix (if they do one) but where FP's are comcerned I'd still with the original and the best !

I had a magimix, but found that attaching the mixer bowl to the base was quite tricky and before long the mixer bowl had cracked. Am still working out whether to get a new bowl. Don't miss it that much.

all you do is sit it on and twist it

Think mine must have been faulty then - yes to the sit on and twist. But then it wouldn't twist, without minute and delicate adjustment, to the the point where the points connected to enable the motor to run IYSWIM. Or would twist further round and disengage the motor while processing.

Thanks, guys - this is really helpful. Think I'll go for the Magimix then - pretty sure it'll look fine left out in my kitchen too, as it's quite modern and there's already quite a lot of stainless steel.

Now just need to get DP to agree to let me buy it on the joint account... surely this is fair enough since we both benefit from the food it helps prepare, even if I'm the only one who ever actually uses it?
