I thought you did...I was given a fab one for Christmas and on the packaging are some symbol instructions for heating it up. I though you had it with a lovely liqueur at teh end of the meal - am I wrong?

Please help!!

It's delicious toasted...with some butter and jam.

Finbar · 26/12/2008 17:54

The packagin seemed to suggest a short burst in the microwave or in the oven. Not what I expected!

I've always had it cold

Finbar · 26/12/2008 17:56

Me too.

Panettone looks lovely in its big pannier but it is disappointing and well a bit shite I've decided. I always end up making a posh Apple Charlotte with it or Queen of Puddings because nobody ever wants to eat it just as a cake.

MatNanPlusTINSEL · 26/12/2008 17:58

room temp with hot choclate/milk is lovely

charlieandlola · 26/12/2008 17:59

If I am given a Pannettone, I always use it for bread and butter pudding,as it is a bit meh on its own.

pushchair · 26/12/2008 17:59

I eat it as a kind of fruit loaf. Unbuttered in a wedge or slice witha cup of tea for breakfast. Sometimes toasted and lightly buttered.

kiltycoldbum · 26/12/2008 18:00

i love it cold in big fat chunks shovelled into my mouth, i love the stuff!

asicsgirl · 27/12/2008 16:18

nigel slater fries slices of it up in butter!

Nighbynight · 27/12/2008 16:48

Panettone is gorgeous!
I eat it cold - but would also be good heated, I'd imagine.

ChippyMyrrhton · 27/12/2008 18:52

Try this bread & butter pud recipe. I did it today and it's lovely.

Finbar · 31/12/2008 08:57

Thanke for the recipe - I have discovered I am the only one in my family who likes teh stuff...but this recipe may just help...

Panettone is lovely if you think of it as bread rather than cake.

Sputnik · 31/12/2008 10:18

It's ok cold but warming it up a little brings out the flavour. Italians often have it for breakfast, I like it as an afternoon snack with tea personally, but it's too filling to eat at the end of a meal imo. For me it's British equivalent would be a hot cross bun.

Frying in butter sounds lovely but would put you on the fast train to Blubbertown I should think.

pinkie08 · 31/12/2008 11:41

I love it room temp with lashings of butter shovelled in as fast as i can.

A hot coffee for dunking it in helps too yummy.

unfitmother · 31/12/2008 11:43

I love it, just as it is. I want to go and buy one now but I've still got an un-opened stollen.

Tinkjon · 03/01/2009 22:40

Yummy with jam on

chipo · 04/01/2009 20:10

I might try making french toast from it when it goes a bit hard, It's making me hungry just thinking about it.

WilfSell · 04/01/2009 20:12

the fruit one or the plain sugary one? We have just cracked one of the latter that we forgot to eat on NYE, as we have it dunked in champagne (as my Italian friend once showed me)

the fruity one best toasted with butter IMHO

But it's all good - it's cake, isn't it?

AuraofDora · 04/01/2009 20:14

its lovely stuff
you are all food philistines who say otherwise

have only had it with coffee, never buttered or toasted or jammed or anything

jojosmaman · 04/01/2009 20:18

I just had some room temp with a cup of tea, yum! Last night I made panettone pudding (posh bread and butter pudding, just sub bread and butter with panettone) and it was delicious.

TheFallenMadonna · 04/01/2009 20:20

Toasted and buttered.

With coffee.

And Bucks fizz.

Or just fizz.

I'm curious, what's pannettone? Never heard of it or tried it?
