Is it safe to leave out the fridge overnight? No heating on.
Will it defrost in time?! I couldn't believe it still had ice on nearly 24hrs after being put in the fridge!

Wrap it in a bin liner and put in a shallow bath of COLD water.

Leave it out - less risky than trying to cook it half frozen.

Just put it somewhere fairly cool, turn the rad off in the kitchen and leave it there?

Just make sure that if you have cats they can't get at it. I have an enduring memory of being woken by screaming one Christmas morning when my Auntie found the cat had eaten the turkey

No rads on so thats is ok.
No cat but do have a very greedy greyhound! But he is shut out of the kitchen.

Would a carrier bag do? Don't think i have any bin bags left. Does it have to be wrapped so it doesn't touch the water?

Yes, you don't want the bird getting wet, but the water will help to defrost it.

As it draws the cold out of the bird, the water temp will drop. If you can be arsed to keep changing the water (suggest hourly) it will defrost the bird quicker.

Do not under any circumstances be tempted to use warm water though.

ok thanks for that. Will give it a go!
My new cooker does have a defrost option in the instructions but would rather not use that.
