Thats a brill start. With the toast does it matter if its white or brown bread?

My 10 mo likes bread sticks, the crusts of toast, grapes cut in half ( I know some mums peel them!), apple, carrot. His favourite is cucumber. Again some mums peel it and cut into sticks but Ds loves the skin so just gets slices. Hopefully he will eat more things when he has more than two teeth......

KoalaBear · 26/03/2005 10:10

little pieces of avocado

steamed vegetable pieces such as carrots, peas, brocolli florets, asparagus, sweet potato cut into strips

ripe strawberries cut into strips

our son also likes roast chicken which pulls apart into little "strings", and cut up sandwich ham

mandarin pieces cut into thirds (little but good)

KristinaM · 26/03/2005 10:10

Forgot to say my Ds wont eat banana pieces as they are too slimey! Will eat mashed off a spoon though. We only have wholemeal or granary bread in the house and ds seems to like the texture of the crusts. Better for teething I guess.

KoalaBear · 26/03/2005 10:11

oh, and apple and pear cut into pieces and steamed until soft (I don't give raw as I am petrified of choaking)

KristinaM · 26/03/2005 10:12

Remember to try citrus fruits and strawberries gradually as some babies are sensitive to them

KoalaBear · 26/03/2005 10:12

can spread the avocado or banana on bread to help with the "slimyness" - makes it easier to pick up

KristinaM · 26/03/2005 10:13

Oh Kb what a kind mummy you are!!!!!!!

KristinaM · 26/03/2005 10:14

and some babies LOVE slimey.....

KoalaBear · 26/03/2005 10:15

no, not kind, just desparate as he refuses to eat from a spoon - the only way I can get him to eat is if he puts it in his mouth himself! I guess I've gotten a bit sneaky

KoalaBear · 26/03/2005 10:17

oh, and as KristinaM reminded me, remember to try each new food separately to make sure your little one is not allergic

bambino1 · 26/03/2005 10:17

My little one is exactly the same. Spoon goes near her then the whole face screws up. these suggestions are brilliant. going down shops later and get some bits to try new things with her.

Ah bambino1, so you too have an independent little critter

I have to remind myself that although its frustrating in a baby, independence in an adult is a very GOOD quality!

bambino1 · 26/03/2005 10:24

So true. Sometimes I just forget she is a baby! She certainly doesn't act like one sometimes. She is definatly a mini me!!!

Won't she choke on raisins. I really worry giving her things so small!

She has two bottom ones but they are not fully out yet. She is in her highchair at mo eating toast and having a wail of a time.

DS isn't very good at holding/eating finger foods but loves bits to play with. the thing he copes with best is laughing cow cheese triangles as they're easy to hold and soft enough to swallow...
