Fresh Figs: eat the skin or not????

I've always eaten the skin. But they were served with salad at a dinner party recently and while I ate the whole lot, everyone else scooped out the flesh with spoons . I appreciate that there might be a personal preference question here, but what is the "correct" way of eating fresh figs: with or without skins? Thanks

I always eat the skin. I think not eating the skin seems a bit odd. It's not like, you know, orange peel.

eat the skin

what a waste otherwise.

Overmydeadbody · 21/12/2008 16:42

I don't think there is ne 'correct' way

There is no rule, just personal taste. I tend to take the skin out, when I don't know where they are coming from. Plus some varieties have thicker skins than others. Btw this is not the right time of the year to eat figs (pedantic emoticon!!!)

Eat the skin. Them that don't is weeeeeiiiird (and putting on airs).

so, feel better about having skins on, but now realise they are not seasonal (thanks franca . Will cross figs off the list!

It depends on the type. Some green figs have very thick (well, for figs anyway) skins that tend to taste a little milky if not perfectly ripe or has fine hairs that can make your skin itch.

I always eat purple skinned figs with skins, whereas I vary with green figs. I don't think there's necessarily a right or wrong way.
