DD doesn't have any Barbies thought I'd get a cheap one as a surprise for the cake. Does the head and torso just snap off and can it be put back together again?

Don't won't to but will need to get 2 if they don't as she'll be heartbroken that the head doesn't have legs iykwim

don't you just stick the whole thing in? Snapping the legs off sounds horrific!

RustyBear · 20/12/2008 15:53

I think the legs usually pop out of their sockets.

The only one I've actually seen (one of DD's friends) there was a hole down the middle of the cake which the complete doll slotted into - not sure if they used a ring mould or put some kind of tube in the middle while it was cooking.

Hadn't thought of that option,is that what you do then, will need to check my pudding basin is tall enough so the cake can accommodate legs? Am too ill to be organising all this might delegate to dp

I would just hack a hole in the centre of the cake, and fill in a any messy bits with extra icing. Cakes are softer tha plastic dolls.

How old is DD? Young enough to be traumatised by a 'dead' dolly?

I'm getting Sindy flashbacks and popping legs back into sockets,do Barbie dolls still do this?

DD will be 4,am worried she'll clock the Barbie be over the moon then distraught when she realises it's legless ie not much fun to play with.

Just checked 'nigella' and she says to stick the whole thing into the sponge cone.

I did one of these for my DD's birthday wrapped dolls legs in clingfilm and stuck them into the cake and voila! an additional present... bought a cheapish barbie which had a short (fairy?) skirt which did a fine job of covering up the join between doll & cake

Yes, legs come off easily and go on again. Buy a poundland Barbie-type doll for buttons. Easy peasy.
