How long will it keep?!
Its been in my cupboard for ages and I gave in and made it cos I was excited to do it, sad I know...
Will it last til Sunday?
Shall I wrap it in something, its too damn big to fit in my cake box or a tin
Hellllp!!

Hmm - it's likely to go soft. You don't have a big plastic storage box with toys or something in you could use? Or you could wrap it in foil and then a black bin bag to try to keep the air out.

pamplemousse · 19/12/2008 22:59

I do have a plastic toy box but wouldn't all the air round it affect it do you reckon? I could squash (gently its a work of art of course (!) foil over it couldn't I?

Well, there's air all round in cake tins, isn't there, so I guess if there's a lid to the toy box it might work. Sealing it in foil should work, I reckon.

AdventCandleQueen · 19/12/2008 23:03

I cover mine in foil, but to be honest if you stick enough smarties and jelly tots on it nobody gives a shit if the gingerbread is a bit soft!

madrush · 19/12/2008 23:03

If it's anything like the gingerbread men I misplaced for over a week in my cupboard, it'll be fine placed loosely in a paper bag. Honestly, they were fine, had to taste them myself to make sure

MrsBadger · 19/12/2008 23:07

should be fine till sunday

the hardest bit is not eatign it before its due time IME

pamplemousse · 19/12/2008 23:12

Good point Habbibu
I think I will wrap it in foil to help keep it crunchy just in case, and to hide it so I don't get tempted to eat it!
Thanks ladies

DS1 (3.5) asked if he could eat some of the house and I told him "No, it's only for looking at and saying "Wow, isn't Mummy so clever"!"
So now he just gets as close to it as he can and sniffs it.
I'm a terrible mother!

pamplemousse · 19/12/2008 23:20

Good plan Advent!!
DD may not be the problem though, DP and I know its for eating!

I'm sitting here waiting for DD's 'gingerbread' cake walls to dry together before adding the roof. She and a friend will decorate it tomorrow.

We've actually made the walls of chocolate 'gingerbread' i.e. left the ginger out and added cocoa for a change. It's her birthday party tomorrow so pressure will be on in the morning to get it done before we leave here at 10am!

pamplemousse · 19/12/2008 23:34

You are so generous SueW I didn't let my dd help, I wanted to do it all myself and make it beautiful I am such a sad control freak its untrue.

ours has been made since saturday -with my 3 ds pinching tiny bits here and there only grandad was brave enough to take a noticeable chunk -much to the shock of ds3 .

SueW · 19/12/2008 23:42

She's 12yo pamplemousse and will prob do a better job than I would

However.... two years ago she had a horseriding cake. I baked a choc traybake and put green fondant rolled icing over the top, left her and same friend to decorate with some left over icing and plastic horses, rider and fencing whilst I went for a shower.

When I came back they'd done a fantastic job of placing the plastic bits, made some trees (added red colouring to green icing to make brown for the tree trunks), bushes and even grassy bits out of the left over icing.

And a great big pile of HORSE POO one corner of the paddock!

pamplemousse · 22/12/2008 16:27

Lol Sue thats great!! Mine's 2 so I feel OK for being a control freak
It was fine, a bit soft but everyone had a bit and were polite about it!
