thing baking powder contains bicarb and s
something else. have to say, i'm not sure why you would use both - bet you could use just bicarb or just baking powder if you wanted and result would be more or less the same.

Thanks for sharing the message I've got a batch in the oven now!!!

NewHollyOtherIvy · 18/12/2008 14:15

The extra bicarb helps brings out the flavour of the chocolate (same reason for using it in ginger cake / parkin). Yes it's in baking powder but it's not really a raising agent on its own so you need both.

Thanks for posting the quantities I am also hopeless at guessing. Could you possibly also share the quantities for the gooey chocolate topping.

Thanks

bohemianbint · 18/12/2008 20:51

Was just going to post for this recipe, I really fancy trying them, but my biscuits always come out looking like a toddler made them at nursery.

How did they turn out, happylittlecamper?

frumpygrumpy · 19/12/2008 01:05

Hi, I'm also interested in the gooey topping bit........ and hearing how they turned out..........and what to do in what order

I did watch last night but I was more watching zombie-like with drool than concentrating on what I needed to!!!

frumpygrumpy · 19/12/2008 01:06

bohemian, mine too, toddler cookies everytime, don't know what I do wrong!!

WalkinginWaynettaWonderland · 19/12/2008 15:40

Right - reporting back while they cool...
First make sure your butter is v.v. soft as otherwise takes bleeding ages if you don't have a food processer.
Quantities made about 34 cookies.
The ones at the top of the oven looked all nice and "cookie-y", the rest look like meat patties.
Taste nice but v rich.

Off to mnake the goo for on top.....

oh, and my mixture didn't look as wet as Nigella's but that may be because of the butter.....

Got these ready to go but are there any eggs in them? Is anyone around to answer please?

Millie1 · 20/12/2008 11:41

Tis okay (obviously by now!) ... found video clip on you tube and no eggs. They're lovely - really buttery.
