have you got A MANDOLIN? oops.

slice peeled pots very thin, put in a bowl of water. This draws out some of the starch. Dry on a dishcloth.

Arrange layers in a dish, on top of each layer add S&P and a bit of crushed garlic.

Once you've run out of room, pour in cream and dot with little knobs of butter. Bake.

Not sure for how long / what temp. Look up Delia, her recipe is the best.

Thanks ,will have a look for a Delia recipe.

I don't have a mandolin though so will have to try and chop very thinly.

they don't have to be ridiculously thin, just as thin as you can be arsed with! No-one will notice.

faithandhope · 16/12/2008 12:03

Ok thanks, will give it a go.

I had a Nigella's bread sauce flavoured dauphinoise potatoes - they are delish!

I'll hunt out the recipe if you want?

-slice as thin as you can and arrange in dish.
-boil 1 cup milk. Add garlic and bay leaf and cloves, leave to infuse a few minutes then remove leaf and cloves.

  • Add 1 cup cream to the mix.
pour over potatoes and dot with butter.

This is fab with jerusalem artichokes too.

CuppaTeaJanice · 16/12/2008 12:05

Can you make it with a mixture of vegetables - parsnips, sweet potatoes etc.?

The recipe I have is to bake for 1 hour at 160c/gas 4/fan 140, although I have done it for longer and it is nice as long as it doesn't burn on top.
