We have a tiny oven and won't be able to do both roast potatoes and turkey at the same time. Is it possible to do the roast potatoes the day before and then give them a blast in the oven for 20 minutes or so while the turkey is resting?

i would cook the turkey the day before and serve cold and do the roasties on the day

they are best when done fresh and served roasting hot IME

Do the turkey the day before...that will be nicer warmed up than the potatoes

Don't cook the potatoes in advance - the taste of reheated potatoes is very distinctive and not nice imo. What I would do in your situation is parboil the potatoes for a bit longer than the normal so they need less time in the oven. When the turkey comes out to rest, then you turn the oven temperature up a bit and put your potatoes in to roast. They will only take about 20 minutes to brown and crisp and be cooked through (I know this as I do roast potatoes every Sunday and regularly forget they are boiling on the hob and then find they need very little roasting time). I also know that if you wrap the turkey in some tin foil it will easily retain its heat for 20 minutes.

Jamie and Nigella always say to cook the turkey first and then let it rest (will stay hot for an hour) - plenty of time to put in the roast pots and trimmings etc - thats what I do!

Thanks everyone, will do roast potatoes on the day. I'll try your trick DumbledoresGirl on sunday, I'll do a practise run on the potatoes then.
