Number cake tins

DD is about to turn one after Christmas and I'm going to attempt the obligatory cake in the shape of a 1. Not being the world's most prolific cook, I don't want to be buying cake tins every year so does anyone know if you can hire the tins anywhere?

TIA

I've got a cakey type shop, just round the corner to me, which hires tins out, so I know its possible.

Check out your local area, there must be somewhere you can hire from.

OK great, thanks. That's what I wanted to know. There are a couple of cakey places nearby but I can't remember the names, hence the enquiry!

if you have a rectangle tin, or a big roasting tin you can just make a massive cake and cut it out.

that's what I do. then use the remnants iced, cut into squares for little extra ones

That's fine when they are ONE, but it get a whole lot more tricky when they are 2 or even 3!

By that stage the novelty will have worn off and it'll be a Tesco Night Garden cake.

Maybe if you say what area of the country you are in someone may have a shop recommendation for you.

Cook book - The Australian womans weekly babies and toddlers good food - shows you how to chop regular cakes up to 5 if you can get a copy if you are still up for it then (mines not that old so sure its possible - was from WHS). I do number biscuits instead for ease

I'm in Surrey CoV

What book is that Goat? I'm googling and there are loads of them. I wouldn't mind a birthday cake book.

Ah me too. Where abouts? There is a shop in East Molesley (near Hampton court) that rents out tins called Blue Ribbon. Another fab shop just off the Tolworth roundabout of the A3, called Surbiton sugarcraft.

SnowballsintheSky · 13/12/2008 23:51

Ooh goody. I'm in Epsom so not far from those at all Don't know East Molesey too well but could find it. Trying to think of cake shop in Tolworth though...

It isn't in Tolworth, it is on the road going into Surbiton off the A10, but Im not sure if he rents out tins or just sells them. The one in East Molesey, just the other side of Esher def hires them out. blue ribbons

feedthegoat · 13/12/2008 23:54

here

ComeOVeneer · 13/12/2008 23:55

Sorry not the A10, it is the A3

Great. Thanks you two. That shop you linked to looks fab, enough to make me want to decorate lots of cakes Think I know where the other one is as well now.

Have added that book to my Amazon wish list which I know MIL is consulting... Am determined to make a decent cake.
