so what the hell do I do with that then? I love the idea of lobster and said to him the other day I'd never tried it and wanted to, so he came home with one for me! Not sure what to do with it....what would you serve it with??!!
TIA!

Put it back in the sea fgs. It's not food.

Majeika · 06/12/2008 22:28

Lobster salad

Seafood risotto

Just break it open and eat it with your bare hands!

Majeika · 06/12/2008 22:29

Fresh pasta with cream and lobster sauce

WhiteCrispAnEvenStubbleonchin · 06/12/2008 22:46

EEE u lucky mare?/stallion?.. Enjoy it.

Defrost and boil.. (as per instructions on the packet i presume).

Agree with (Majeika first) Cut in half and tuck in! Make some dipping sauces to compliment its richness, like, soy sauce/Sweet chilli.

Oh and a good bottle of white wine

geraldinetheluckygoat · 06/12/2008 22:46

lol @ put it back in the sea! It's a bit of a drive from here, is it acceptable comprimise to put it in bath as new toy for ds's?
Ok, Majeika, can you give me a brief idea of how to make a cream lobster sauce? (crap at cooking, you see.)
Quite like idea of eating with bare hands, sounds easiest option...

we had one of these lidl lobsters the other week, just followed the instructions on the packet and dont forget a hammer/nutcrackers.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 06/12/2008 22:57

was it nice, nighbynight? ds1 will love concept of bashing dinner with a hammer!

it was very nice, like a giant prawn, and yep my children really got into the spirit of cracking the shell.

the Cookery Year says that you should remove the gills, the dark intestinal vein that runs down the tail, and the small stomach sac in the head (dark coloured).
but you can eat the green creamy liver in the head, and the coral red spawn in the tail.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 06/12/2008 23:51

oh god, didnt know I have to remove bits! Did you do this?? Was it easy??????? Glad it tasted good, I am excited about my lidl lobster!!

I know with prawns you have to remove the veins etc, but with lobster i am not sure it so critical if its pre-cooked frozen etc.

According to thid Here its pre-cooked but you have some fiddley bits to do..

WhiteCrispAnEvenStubbleonchin · 07/12/2008 01:00

Can i add that this is where the wine comes in handy!

geraldinetheluckygoat · 07/12/2008 22:24

Oh, thats a useful link, thanks! I removed any bits that looked dodgy, and cooked it with a tomato and white wine sauce recepie that i found in the end, was yummy! DS1 was a bit traumatised as he was very excited about "Mr Lobster" and wanted it to be his friend In the end, he got into bashing the shell off though lol

LOL at Mr Lobster, My DS had the smae relationship with a giant crab FIL bought on holiday to cook, DS got into cracking it open eventually but only had a tiny nibble.

Nighbynight · 08/12/2008 07:34

ha ha my children were the same, they were fascinated by it. dd wanted to bury the bits of shell after we had eaten it.
I am never buying a live one.

geraldinetheluckygoat · 08/12/2008 14:27

no, can you imagine, they would LOVE IT! Rabbit, anyone? I can remember weeping when my dad used to shoot rabbits and bring them home to cook
