Dosen't like pasta!

Hi there,

My 1 year old refuses to touch the stuff - pasta - am gutted! as her older brother loves it and also it's just such an easy meal to do for them. Have tried her with macaroni cheese and even plain pasta with nothing on it but she loathes it.

Has anyone come across this before? She has in the last month become a bit fussier about her food (she was a really brilliant eater up until then).

It leaves a real gap in menu options and I don't want to have to prepare two meals at every mealtime, 1 for her, 1 for son(from a selfish point of view!).

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Ds went off it too after loving it for ages.

We don't give him seperate meals, he'll eat the sauce that goes with it. I'm not going down the 2-meals route!

mine too - except for very recently, (now 3.5). My mum got him eating children's tinned pasta - the shapes (Thomas the Tank, Dora, Scooby Doo) and I have now eventually got him onto the real stuff! All I need to get him over now is his hatred of cheese - if I can do that, the choice of places to eat out will fantastic (ie we can go to pizza express or similar) rather than just restricted to those that do chips!

DS (21mo) won't eat it either. He used to but stopped around 12mo and now it's like you're trying to poison him if you offer it.

Does she eat rice? Could you do the same sauce for both pf them but give her rice and him pasta?

My dd went through exactly the same pasta-hating phase, and now she's back on it with a vengeance.

I'd second nickytwotimes about not starting down any path that involves cooking separate meals. That way madness lies.

Any joy with gnocchi?
Or Rachel Allen does a lasagne-type recipe where you use pancakes rather than lasagne sheets - might be worth seeing if you can get that past her ('past her'... excuse the pun!) and then switch the pancakes for lasagne next time?

what a nightmare for you

pasta is so easy and quick

have you tried adding food colouring to water and then you have funny coloured pasta

or ebly

is there a certain shape he refuses, there are so many types now, tagetelle, tubes, spirals etc, might be able to find a shape he likes

georgiemum · 03/12/2008 17:15

Have you tried the shaped or coloured stuff?

boythengirl · 03/12/2008 22:16

thanks for your suggestions - will try some of them out. I might just not go near her with it for a week or two. I have tried lots of different shapes and big and small - she hates it! the pain of it is that her brother loves it sooo much and would eat it every meal if he could. I don't understand it - isn't every child supposed to like pasta!!

I am an odd adult who isn't really that keen on pasta (or rice for that matter). When I tell people this they ask me what I eat. I tend to replace pasta with potatoes and bread (eg: i will cook spag bol for DH and DS but I will have the mince and sauce with crusty bread instead of pasta). This might be an idea.

cluelessnchaos · 03/12/2008 23:11

My kids love it but I loathe it, like chewing rubber bands, and bloats me like a balloon.

mammyofET · 03/12/2008 23:23

The bloated thing is why don't like it clueless. Makes me feel dreadful tbh.

dinkystinky · 04/12/2008 11:54

Maybe try rice or couscous - once they get used to textures like that, they should take pasta no problems.

Seona1973 · 04/12/2008 13:29

my 2 year old ds doesnt like pasta much but I still offer it as dd loves it. On the days I do pasta I do garlic bread or bread and butter and ds fills up on that instead.

boythengirl · 04/12/2008 14:41

She likes her bread - just as well. not sure if it's a texture thing as she is very good with meat ...no problem chomping on that but as soon as she sees the pasta now no hope!!!
