I read somewhere that you could heat plates up in a microwave as long as they ae microwave proof.

Can't remember where I read it but tried it on saturday night as we had a guest and the oven was full and now although it did heat the plates the next time I went to use the microwave it now does'nt work.

Has anyone else tried this or is it just me who has had a moment of madness?

DH not too happy as only had the microwave 11 months.

I put a bit of water between two plates then nuke for 20 secs or so, then dry the plates.

I think the microwave heats the water only, maybe not having any water to heat made it go a bit screwey?

I have tried it with limited success, I thought that you had to have some water on each plate because the microwave works by heating water. Definitely putting plates with a silver or gold edge on wouldn't do your microwave any good and I think they also don't like to be on with no liquid inside. My in-laws keep a jug of water in their microwave in case it gets turned on by mistake but I've also thought that was a bit barking.

Alternatively heat your plates up by dumping them in a bowl full of boiling hot water for a few mins. Works a treat and you get to re-use the water to soak/wash any pans
