If I do Nigella's stem-ginger gingerbread in a tin that's 2cm too wide, what will happen?

She says 23x11x6cm - my biggest loaf tin is 23x13x6 (the others are all too small).

Have looked online - can't find any with those dimensions.

Will it be a disaster in my tin?

It will be thinner...

I think people like Delia and Nigella keep cake tin manufacturers in business.

franch · 02/12/2008 15:27

They do, don't they? Just can't find one that size. Every recipe requires a different-sized tin. Do you think it'll be miserably thin?

It's a squishy cake; I reckon you can squish it into a different shape.

littlefrog · 02/12/2008 15:30

No.
If you/I were my mother you'd work it all out with ratios etc. and scale up the recipe to fit the tin (looks like it needs to be 20% extra, which is Not Helpful if it includes things like eggs)...

franch · 02/12/2008 15:33

Yep, it includes an egg. Shall I risk a thin one then?

Hi MI I like squishy. Is it nice?

It is divine. Soggy. In a good way. Not very child-friendly, though. Lends itself to a nice glass of whisky.

That's ok, not doing it for the kids! Planning a simple pre-Christmas lunch for veggie friends - Jamie's camembert pasta, then this. Think I'd better do a trial run.

it will be fine, just don't bake it as long. 2 cm is not that much.

On the other hand, there is the risk of what rubyrioja said. It could happen. Or the world could end.
