Milk Man?

Hi. Just wondering if I should have a milk man? I am fed up with keep going down to the shops to pick up milk. I just went on a website but it doesnt give me a price of a pint of whole milk. I also know the milkman round here doesnt deliver til about 8am but we are out the door by then! Is it more expensive than popping to tesco for milk?

Think it is more expensive, but I think it's great, esp. not having all those plastic bottles everywhere.
Ours delivers at 2am, though.

Try www.milkandmore.co.uk
I get milk delivered twice a week. I love the bottles and the lack of plastic rubbish. It is always there before 8am.

I'd have a milk man for the sheer nostalgia factor. I actually saw a milk float go down the street earlier this week and got all excited, jumped up and told DS

So eldestgirl, how much does it cost you?

I had a knock on the door on maternity leave and a man standing there saying "Help your local milkman." He said they delivered at about half seven am so I thought "Why not?"

It was summer at the time. Often I would go out (as late as half ten in the morning) and come back and find warm, sour milk that had been outside in the sun for hours. I ended up cancelling after a few weeks.

I have a milk man. I like that the bottles are totally recyclable and I think that it's generally a good thing and support him so that the service doesn't disappear. However it is ££ and in these credit crunching times I feel like I am being a bit of a fool to pay so much (70p a pint for organic milk)

I've just switch to MilkandMore too. I've always had a milkman, but it was paying him that was the pita. I never seemed to catch up with him and I don't like leaving cash out for him. This way, I pay online every couple of weeks. Its great for emergencies too. If I suddenly remember I forgot to get bread at 9pm, I can order one on line for delivery before breakfast! A pint of milk is 56p.

our milk man is an alcoholic, so i feel i pay him to keep off the street until early hours!! v.nice to have milk on door step in winter, not summer as much its always too warm!!

eldestgirl · 28/11/2008 14:58

Agree with Maureen. You can pay on-line and order up til 9am the night before. Pint of organic milk is 73p here. Lasts past sell by date no prob. Suppose I am prepared to pay extra for convenience and eco-factor.

We get ours delivered thru Dairy Crest (the website to see if they deliver to your address) We used to get it from Tesco and freeze it, but then our massive freezer died and the new one didn't have space so we swapped to doorstep delivery for convenience. The dairy used to be at the end of our road so our milk would be there when we arrived home from a late night/morning out on the town (before DD obviously ). We pay by Direct Debit and it costs us 58p per pint.

Downside is the week the local fair comes to town and stops on the rec a min from our house, our milk always disappears off our doorstep (and the milk crate went once too ). We now cancel it that week
